| About
our region Samoëns
is a very attractive village, situated in the Giffre
Valley of Haute Savoie. It is the only ski resort in
France to be listed as 'Monument Historique' and retains
the qualities of a real French village.
It is situated in beautiful
countryside and much has been done to make it an
attractive holiday place without destroying its very
important historical and cultural features.
The village has the advantage
over some other resorts of being truly French in nature
rather than a complex of buildings built only to provide
for winter sports. Here, you can experience the real
France, as well as enjoying a winter sports or summer
holiday.
Facilities
Samoëns has a variety of bars and restaurants where you
might like to sample local dishes, and I can advise you
on places to eat. You may like to visit the local market
on Wednesdays. Perhaps you want a rest from strenuous
physical activity and would like to visit a museum, a
cheese-making factory or the Botanic Gardens.
You might just like to wander
round the pretty and historic village. There are shops
and various outlets for all sorts of sports hire
equipment. Massage and fitness centres may help to ease
the aches and pains of skiing.
There is a nursery for children
aged between 3 months and 6 years. Advance booking is
essential. Many activities are arranged in the village by
the Samoëns Tourist Office throughout the year, for
adults and children.
Winter
Skiing Holidays in Samoëns
The Grand Massif has 260 km of ski slopes with five
linked ski resorts - Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz,
Flaine and Sixt Fer à Cheval. There are 75 ski lifts, 3
Jamparks, and runs at different levels- green, blue, red
and black. If the members of your party have varying
levels of skiing ability, the runs will allow you to 'do
your own thing' and still meet up in one of the many
restaurants for lunch.
Ski passes,
skiing lessons and equipment hire
A variety of ski passes are
available.
Ski and snowboarding schools can
provide individual or group lessons.
A 'Beginners Ski area' was opened
last year.
The Nursery 'Les Loupiots' which
takes children from 3 months to 6 years will also arrange
ski lessons with private shuttles.
A number of companies provide an
equipment hire service
You can arrange these yourself or I
will do it for you if you let me know your requirements.
Other winter
sports
If you get tired of skiing or
snowboarding, there are plenty of other winter sports on
offer.
- Cross country skiing on Joux
Plane with a bus link from Samoëns village
- Ski touring
- Snowshoeing at Joux Plane,
Sixt Fer à Cheval, Verchaix and Morillon
- Dogsledging (advance booking
required)
- Sledging on Samoëns 1600
and Joux Plane
- Ice skating
- Caving
- Climbing - indoor and
natural sites
- Paragliding
- Helicopter flights

Santa Claus visits the village on
Christmas Eve or you may want to dance in Samoëns at
Hogmanay. In February there is a weekly 'Savoyard Day'
with traditional games, a giant tartiflette and a dance.
On Easter Monday you can hunt for eggs hidden in the
village.
Remember that
you should have insurance for all winter sports. Mountain
rescue can be very expensive!
Summer
holidays in Samöens
In addition to winter sports
facilities, Samoëns, with easy access to more than 260
km of ski piste has a sizeable provision for summer
activities.
This beautiful, unspoilt region
has a tremendous amount to offer as a
holiday area for people who prefer a break in the warmer
seasons. With its mountains, rivers and waterfalls it is
a spectacular area in which to relax and recover from the
stresses of life.
From Samoëns, you can tour the
area and visit the countryside, or go to Chamonix, Annecy
and other towns and villages. There are plenty of lovely
places to visit. The flowers and the wildlife are
wonderful. This is a paradise for artists and
photographers. I will be pleased to direct you to places
which I think are particularly worth visiting.
Although the lifts at Samoëns
are not open out of the ski season, there are others
nearby which do operate in the summer, allowing you to
visit the mountains when they are not covered in snow.
There also many places of historic
interest and of natural history to visit.
You may not have your car with you, but there are a
number of possible excursions by coach.
Perhaps you are interested in a more active holiday?
Walking and rambling. The Samoëns area is well known for
Alpine walking and rambling holidays. There are a number
of 'refuges' in the mountains for those people who take
their walking seriously. If you would like to experience
1 or 2 day treks which need an overnight stay in the
mountains, I can help you to arrange accommodation in a
'refuge'.
Cycling. If you have the energy to pedal up the
hill (with a free wheel down), Samoëns is the place to
do it. You can even use some of the lifts to access
higher level terrain, then cycle from that point. If you
do not want to bring your own bike, cycle hire can be
arranged.
Parapente. Perhaps you would like to get your feet off
the ground and enjoy a bird's eye view of the area, as
well as the thrill of the experience.
Caving. The area of Haut Giffre is renowned for
its caves
Climbing. There are many opportunities for climbing.
Water sports. Wind-surfing and jetski are available
near Samoëns. You may prefer the excitement of white
water rafting or canoeing. Maybe you would just like a
swim in the pool or a lake. These are all possible in
this area. Perhaps you would prefer to stay outside the
water and enjoy trout fishing, in Samoëns, or at Joux
Plane or Lac de Gers where permits are required.
Activites for
children in Samoëns
Many of the activities listed above are available for
children which means that the whole family can enjoy the
holiday together. There is also an 'Indiana Jones'
Adventure Park in Samoëns where you can watch your
children swing from the trees and return to the lifestyle
of the jungle.

the beautiful, historic French village of Samoëns, which
gives direct access to 260kms of pistes and five ski
resorts, known collectively as Le Grand Massif. The
chalet is breathtakingly sited overlooking a small
stream, grassy field and woodland, and in the distance
has an impressive mountain backdrop.

lifts which give access to 260 km of excellent pistes
within the Grand Massif, with five linked ski resorts -
Samoëns 1600, Morillon, Les Carroz, Flaine and Sixt Fer

year round and has some magnificent scenery.
The Chalet is built on three levels
and comprises:

balcony stretching round most of the building and from
here you can enjoy magnificent views of the Giffre Valley
and surrounding mountains. In summer, you can eat out on
the balcony and watch the sun go down while enjoying a
relaxing drink.

used for reading, cards, watching a video or just
relaxing.
