  About our region

A warm welcome awaits you at the Chalet Les Avignieres. A well equipped, delightful chalet with a sundeck / balcony offering spectacular views of the French Alps.

It is a traditional Savoyard build and well equipped with those niceties of life (dish washer, BBQ area etc!), set in an acre of ground and surrounded by fields.

Set close enough to a village to ensure a tranquil holiday and yet only minutes mountain bike ride (through beautiful scenery) away from the patisserie and other amenities.

Holidays in the Haute Savoie

A holiday in this lovely region of the Haute Savoie can be as relaxing or energetic as you wish to make it. Days can be spent hill walking, mountain bike riding, horse riding, white water rafting, canoeing, canyoning or paragliding.

However for those wishing a more relaxing break there is trout fishing or just lazing by the river enjoying the French way of life…Good Food, Good Wine and an unhurried pace.

Nearby Morillon offers a pretty lake for family picnics or swimming and the medieval town of Samoëns has a superb swimming pool with what must be the best view in Europe.

Skiing Haute Savoie

For tremendous skiing in the winter time you are 5 minutes drive away from the large Telecabine at Morillon transporting you up into the huge ski area (260 kms of pistes) of the Grand Massif with plenty of mountain restaurants and fine runs. Upon your return why not call in one of the friendly bars in the village, or eat at the Savoyard restaurants.

With a new high-capacity telecabine system installed in Samoëns,the chalet offers quick access to the pistes of the Grand Massif (this links the five resorts of Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt, Les Carroz and Flaine). You can drive to the Grand Massif Express lift in ten minutes. Transport can be arranged if you do not have a car.

The area covers 260+kms of skiing - more than 130 runs at all levels of ability with some of France's most modern high-capacity lifts.

Pistes range from the highest (2640m) at Flaine, with its spectacular views of Mont Blanc, through to the challenging downhills of Samoëns itself and the gentle slopes or pretty wooded trails of the family skiing areas it shares with Les Carroz and Morillon.

The remarkable "Cascades" run from Flaine to Sixt is 16km long. There are English-speaking instructors throughout the Grand Massif and special facilities for minding small children.

In addition to this huge area there are also 67 kms of groomed cross country ski tracks.

Summer Holidays Haute Savoie

The Valley Giffre is probably one of the prettiest valleys in the French Alps. Its towns are dated from the 17th century and consistently win the coveted 'ville fleuris' awards.

Samöens is a small friendly and unspoiled typical French village with all of the amenities including a choice of 5 banks, patisseries specialising in hand crafted chocolates, maisons de presse / paper and bookshops plus numerous cafes with tables and chairs spilling out across the pavements or squares for you to sit out and watch the world go by while enjoying a pan au chocolat, coffee or 'une verre.'

Neighbouring Sixt, at the head of the valley is a French national site, with a 12th century abbey and vast natural reserves that include Europe's highest sheer limestone face on Tenneverge. This peak at Fer à Cheval forms part of a remarkable glacial circle with several waterfalls cascading from its high ledges

We are also a superb base for a touring holiday. Whether by car or motorbike, the relatively empty roads are a joy to drive, Switzerland and Italy are just an hour away. Beautiful Lake Geneva has many lovely resorts including the old town of Yvoire, famous for its pottery, Evian for its mineral water, Montreux for the Jazz festival and Thonon. Cruises are available from just a simple crossing to a full tour around the lake.

One of our favorites is the medieval town of Annecy with its beautiful lake, beach, antique markets and flower bedecked river walks with an abundance of local restaurants, great shopping and coffee shops. These together with delightful Chamonix are only an hour's drive away.
