Click here to email owner   About our region

Morzine is a picturesque town, and is situated in the French Alpine region of the Haute-Savoie. Unlike many ski resorts, Morzine retains all the charm and culture of the farming town that it once was.

The town is bustling with a number of bars, cafés, restaurants and a variety of shops. In the winter, the 'Pleney Stade' piste is lit up at night once a week for evening skiing and sledging. The indoor ice rink is open to the public and also holds ice hockey matches every week. There are two cinemas which play English films in the winter.

Portes du Soleil

The Portes Du Soleil is the largest linked ski area in the world, and is made up of twelve French and Swiss resorts. It boasts some 650 km of piste in the winter.

Climbing from 1000 to 2466m, between France and Switzerland, its 204 ski lifts will take you up to 279 slopes that interconnect the 12 resorts ... all accessible with a single ski lift pass! The Portes du Soleil is the most northerly ski resort in France, with skiing up to an altitude of 2,470m and so benefits from excellent snow cover throughout the season.

There is an abundance of runs to suit every standard of skier; from nursery slopes for beginners; through extensive cruisy blues and reds for intermediaries; to black runs (the Swiss Wall is not named lightly), mogul fields, and off-piste opportunities for the more adventurous. Both Morzine, and the linked resort of Avoriaz, are renowned by snowboarders and cross-country skiers for their runs and facilities, which are rated as being the best in Europe.

The resorts:
France - Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets, Chatel, St Jean d'Aulps, Abondance, La Chapelle d'Abondance.
Switzerland - Champery, Les Crosets, Morgins, Champoussin, Torgon.

For the snowboarders, there are four snowboard parks, each of them offering something different, and kitted with jumps for all standards. For those looking for long pistes, there are runs up to 7km long.

The non-skier
Morzine offers a host of activities for those not wanting to ski. In addition to the shopping, bars and restaurants, there is an ice-rink, ice hockey (spectators only), tobogganing, sleigh rides, skidoos, paragliding, two cinemas, two nightclubs and regular local events. Geneva, Lac Leman, Annecy and many historical Savoyard villages are at hand for sightseeing. For the quiet life, there are many mountain restaurants accessible to the non-skier, where you can enjoy the scenery, top up the tan and simply relax.

The little people
Morzine is well suited for family holidays with children of all ages. As well as all the non-skiing activities, both the French ski school (ESF) and British ski school (BASS) organise a wide range of English speaking ski classes for would be skiers from the age of 4 yrs upwards. (NB. Under 5’s doesn’t need a ski pass). Crèche facilities, babysitting, and general childcare can also be arranged to give flexibility to the grown ups, both on and off the slopes.

Getting there

Morzine is very easy to access by either air, road or rail. The resort is roughly 8 hours from Calais by car or 1hr 15 minutes by air from all London airports.

One of the great attractions for visiting Morzine is the short transfer time from the airport. It can be as quick as 1 hour and therefore easy to take a long weekend and avoid the 4 hour transfers a large number of resorts have.

By air: At little over an hour's drive, Morzine is one of the closest alpine resorts to Geneva airport. Flight times from the UK are approximately 1 hour 15 minutes and can cost as little as £27.50 each way.

By road: Morzine is one of the closest and easily reached alpine resorts from the UK. Driving to the resort is very simple. There is motorway from Calais to within 30km of Morzine. The 535-mile journey can be completed in approximately eight to nine hours. Allow approximately £35/54euros each way for road tolls. Fuel is cheaper than in the UK. The choice for crossing the channel lies between the ferries and the Eurotunnel.

By rail: You can catch the Eurostar from Waterloo Train Station to Paris where you change for trains to Thonon and Cluses which is nearby.
