Pech Gary Bas is a newly converted traditional farmhouse for 6 people which sits high on a hillside overlooking the picturesque and sleepy village of Castanet. The house is secluded within over a hectare of private land, offering a relaxing and tranquil location in the heart of rolling French countryside and woodland with spectacular views over the hills and surrounding area.

Pech Gary Bas is close to the nearby villages of Monteils and Parisot which both have bakeries, small grocery shops and, very importantly, good family-run restaurants! 20 minutes away the bustling market town of Villefranche de Rouergue offers good shopping, restaurants and sightseeing. The airports of Rodez and Toulouse make Pech Gary Bas an easily accessible holiday destination.

A number of local villages and towns have interesting and colourful markets. Be sure not to miss the local market in St Antonin held on Sunday mornings.

Peace and tranquility surround you, but for those more active, there are many sporting activities nearby including tennis, fishing, pot-holing, rock-climbing and horse riding. There is a delightful 18 hole golf course at Albi, where there is also a water park for children. An afternoon's excursion by canoe through the Aveyron Gorge is also considered a 'must' by nearly all guests.

Within short driving distances there are a number of fascinating towns and villages including Albi, Cahors, Penne and Bruniquel, all of which are well worth a visit. As well as the nearby medieval villages and bastide towns, there are châteaux, abbeys, churches and magnificent natural sites of outstanding beauty; whether it be wooded valleys or the meandering Aveyron with its dramatic gorges.

Newly restored with exposed beams and original stonework, the house retains an abundance of traditional charm yet offers excellent modern facilities and amenities. There are 3 double size bedrooms and 3 bath/shower rooms with exceptionally spacious living rooms and a fully equipped modern kitchen.

Outside, the shaped swimming pool with Roman steps is built into the hillside and has wonderful views to enjoy as you leisurely swim up and down. There are plenty of loungers and parasols on the terrace around the pool in this peaceful and secluded haven. The pool is fully fenced for safety in accordance with strict French laws and has a constant depth of 1.3m, making it perfect for children and adults alike.

The gardens around the house are landscaped and there is a delightful sun-trap terrace in front of the house with table and chairs which is perfect for relaxing or eating al fresco.

With many trees in the grounds, there are lots of shady spots for guests to sit and enjoy a good book. The extensive grounds and surrounding countryside offer plenty of walks and nature lovers will be amazed by the varieties of wild flowers, butterflies and birds which fill this unspoilt corner of France.

The house is great for children. The owners have 2 children who delight in being able to play safely in the fields and woods around the house, untroubled by traffic.

The ground floor of the property is extremely spacious. It offers a secluded sitting room with a wood burning stove and big sofas, perfect for reading quietly or playing family games in the evening. This leads through to a dining room with a long family table which in turn opens onto a large, open plan family living room and a fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. There are plenty of fitted kitchen cupboards for storage and a breakfast bar for sitting at and chatting to the cook!

Leading off the family room is a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom (bath, wc and basin) and views across the countryside. There is also another large shower, basin and toilet.

There are 2 spacious bedrooms on the first floor, one with a double bed and the other has 2 singles. Both rooms have wonderful views across the countryside and vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. There is also a family bathroom equipped with bath, wc, bidet and basin.

Prices and booking information

The rental price includes gas, electricity, linen and towels ( bath and pool towels) which are provided for all persons and changed weekly.

Getting there

Pech Gary Bas is approximately a day's drive from the Channel Ports and only 1 hour from Toulouse airport, which has flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Cardiff, Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and numerous flights from regional airports connecting with Amsterdam or Brussels and then onwards to Toulouse. Carcassonne and Rodez are both served by Ryanair and are slightly further away, but provide another alternative with often very much cheaper fares, particularly out of the main holiday season.
