  About our property

Our holiday home is situated in Luz St Sauveur a small Spa town at 720m in the High Pyrenees. 25 kms to the south of Lourdes and 20 kms from the World Heritage Site the Cirque de Gavarnie with its 423m waterfall. The Pyrenees National Park is just 5 kms away.

Accommodation

Maison d’Emilie was built 7 years ago in Pyrenean style with shutters, blinds and wooden beams and stunning views of the mountains, the valley and the town.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms, (a double and a twin both with large built in cupboards) also a shower room with washbasin and loo.

Downstairs is another smaller bedroom with a single bed that has another bed that pulls out from underneath. The beds are supplied with duvets and bed linen (by arrangement).

There is another loo downstairs.

The Salle de Sejour has large patio doors that have wonderful views of the mountains, the Chapelle Solferino and the church which are both floodlit at night. There is wood burning stove and ample supply of logs for winter. There are fitted bookshelves with guide books, maps, novels, board games and a Radio/CD player.

The kitchen is well equipped with fridge/freezer, hob, microwave/convection oven/grill, automatic washing machine, electric kettle, toaster etc. and plenty of matching glasses and crockery.

From the front garden are views of the mountains and the Chateau St Marie which is floodlit. A cot and highchair are also available. There is garden furniture and BBQ for al fresco dining.

There is a parking space, and a locked cellier for the safe storage of bikes and ski’s.

We prefer to keep Maison d’Emilie a no smoking zone.

Walking - There are numerous high and low level walks, many from our door including two peaks! There are guide books, maps and a book in which we and some of our visitors describe walks they have enjoyed.

Skiing - There are two excellent ski stations equidistant from Luz, a 14 minute drive to Bareges/La Mongie 1450m-1750m which is the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees with 125 kms of pistes and excellent cross-country skiing. Also Luz Ardiden 1730m-2500m which can be reached by car or by using the navette from the square in Luz. The cottage is very well insulated with efficient electric wall heaters and a wood burning stove.

Wildlife - The National Park is an haven for wildlife, birds, flowers and butterflies. Marmots are everywhere and it is easy to spot Isards. There are plenty of raptors especially Griffon Vultures. More of rarity is the Bearded Vulture, Golden Eagle, Black Woodpecker and Wallcreeper. A red kite frequently glides over our garden.

Cycling - The area is a mecca for cyclists. The Tour de France is coming through Luz once again on July 12th, 2009 on its way from the St Gaudens to Tarbes.via the Col du Tourmalet. There are many favourite Cols close by - Col du Tourmalet, Luz Ardiden, Hautacam, Col d’Aspin and Col d’Aubisque. For mountain bikers there are lots of trails at Bareges, and a wonderful cycle/or roller blading path that goes from nearby Pierrefitte –Nestalas either up to Cauterets or down to Lourdes.

Thermes St Sauveur is the Spa side of the town. They have been recently upgraded and are luxurious and one can use the pool, Roman baths, jacuzzi’s, steam room and sauna’s.
