About our Region

Hidden at the top of a pretty valley nestled between green fields and forests, just 4 km from Souillac, lies Le Manoir peering out over the peacefulness of La Forge.

This particularly popular region offers an ideal combination of varied landscape, an abundance of culture and excellent cuisine all influenced by the mild Mediterranean climate.

Le Manoir is centrally located among several famous places to visit. Below are some of our suggestions:

Sarlat

A flighty visit to the okra colored town of Sarlat would be a waste because this is truly the place to go all out on! Every façade, gate, rooftop and windowsill is unique.

Besides the lovely buildings to admire, there is a delightful selection of restaurants to try and shops to explore. Also, one of the very best country markets in France takes place here every Wednesday and Saturday.

Rocamadour

This little place was built on the rocks that lie high above the deep ravine of Alzou. It is one of the prettiest situated villages of France and has always been popular for making a pilgrimage, even today.

Domme

The village of Domme stands atop a rock plateau (a breathtaking view). Through the ages, with its narrow winding streets, pretty terraces and century old houses, the buildings here were built around a fortress, which dates back to 1281.

Souillac

Souillac is situated along the river Dordogne (great for canoeing). The town was founded sometime around the 12th century surrounding the Benedictine Abbey.

It’s a popular marketplace with a nice variety of shops, museums, and café terraces.

On Friday is a weekly market offering a fine selection of local wines, fish, cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Beynac

Beynac lies southwest of Sarlat along the Dordogne. Just as the boatmen did long ago, you can sail down the river Dordogne on board one of the typical Gabares as you discover 5 of the most beautiful castles of the valley. Plus a visit to the fortified castle above Beynac is a must to appreciate the amazing combination of beautiful architecture and romantic nature of the area.

Les Eyzies-de-Tayac

This little place lies hidden in a peaceful valley but has the most famous caves in all of Europe; caves where people lived thousands of years ago.

Visit the National Prehistoric Museum (Musée National de Préhistoire) to see cave murals and objects that have been found there.

Gouffre de Padirac

This enormous crater, 31 metres wide by 99 metres deep (gouffre: abyss) leads to a secret cave complex to where an underground river flows.

You can take a lift down, walk a little way, and then take a boat ride throughout the caves. The ride ends at this amazing arena which rises up 91 metres.

Of course, the active sportsman also has much to enjoy on holiday here. This is the ideal region for biking and hiking through the French countryside around Le Manoir.

Just 2 kilometres away is an 18-hole golf course and in Souillac are many sport and recreation possibilities like horseback riding, canoeing, tennis etc.

In each village all around you will encounter weekend festivals, live musical concerts and typical outdoor flea markets.

Family weekend gatherings and creative workshops are also possible to organise and attend at Le Manoir.

Getting there

Bergerac airport is served by Ryanair and other low-cost airlines. Toulouse has a wider choice of carriers and UK departure airports.
