our region Le
Pradel in the Aveyron Gorge region, is ideally situated
between the medieval villages of Najac and Corde sur Ciel
and 20 minutes from the vibrant market town of
Villefranche and 30 minutes to the spectacular St Antonin
Noble Val. There is easy access to restaurants, shops and
the renowned traditional markets - assuming you can drag
yourself away from this idyllic holiday retreat of
course! A number of local villages and
towns have interesting and colourful markets. Be sure not
to miss the local market in This beautiful and as yet undiscovered area of south-west France is steeped in history and offers a quiet relaxing holiday for those interested in wonderful scenery, unspoilt French charm and excellent food and drink. Peace and tranquility surround you, but for those more active, there are many sporting activities nearby including tennis, fishing, pot-holing, rock-climbing and horse riding. The area is ideal walking country, and rail trips can be taken to many destinations. Two cycles for adults are provided free of charge. Golf is available at Albi (a delightful 18 hole course, approximately 50 minutes by car), where there is also a water park for children. An afternoon's excursion by canoe through the Aveyron Gorge is also considered a 'must' by nearly all guests. Within short driving distances
there are a number of fascinating towns and villages
including Albi, Cahors, Penne and Bruniquel, all of which
are well worth a visit. As well as the nearby medieval
villages and bastide towns, there are châteaux, abbeys,
churches and magnificent natural sites of outstanding
beauty; whether it be wooded valleys or the meandering
Aveyron with its dramatic gorges. Nestling in the heart of the peaceful Aveyron countryside, this beautifully restored south facing farmhouse of typical local architecture offers a wonderfully relaxing holiday home. Not in any way typical of most holiday houses, it has the feeling of home, and with it immense comfort. With delightful views, an acre of mainly lawned gardens and an inviting 'horizon' pool, the owners have created and equipped a home where you'll want for nothing. A large country-style kitchen, ideally equipped for in-house catering, with a full size table and chairs, American type fridge/freezer, dishwasher etc. There is also a CD player, so bring some music of your choice. Utility room, adjacent to the kitchen, with sink and wasing machine. This leads to the: Downstairs cloakroom. The dining room is across the hallway, providing an
alternative eating area should you decide on a more
formal dinner one evening. Doors from here lead onto the
patio and pool area. The summer lounge, also with doors to the patio and pool area, has comfortable soft furnishings, and is an ideal place to take a rest from the sun. With satellite TV and numerous Sky channels, it is ideal for youngsters as a break from the pool or simply a chance for the adults to take a quiet lunch. A video and CD player are also available, as well as a cot and high chair. Bedroom 1, the master double bedded room with a superb view over the pool and terrace area, with a large en-suite with bath, shower and twin hand basins. Bedroom 2, a further twin-bedded room and bathroom. Bedroom 3, a large double bedroom with en-suite. The winter lounge, accessed from the landing area or separately by an internal staircase, offers a cool comfortable get away room for anyone who might like some peace from the rest of the group. On the top floor is: A bathroom and two twin bedded rooms. All the bedrooms are light and airy with soft colours and are delightfully furnished. Outside, the private swimming pool measures 12m x 5m with a constant depth of 1.3m throughout. It has a surround of terracotta tiles and is sited in the delightfully lawned gardens of almost one acre. There are ample trees as an alternative to the parasols to provide the all-important shade during those long hot summers. The patio, which leads from the downstairs lounge towards the pool, has a table and chairs and barbecue for outdoor eating, and is also accessed from the kitchen. There is an additional shaded eating area to the east of the property, equipped with breakfast table and chairs - a great place to take the early morning sunshine. There are relaxers and sun-loungers for all, and for the more energetic there are two bicycles, badminton, boules and various pool toys. A caretaker is close by should any assistance be needed. The rental price includes
gas, electricity, linen and towels (hand, bath and pool
towels) which are provided for all persons and changed
weekly. Le Pradel is approximately a day's drive from the Channel Ports and only 1½ hours from Toulouse airport, which has flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Dublin, Cardiff, Southampton, Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and numerous flights from regional airports connecting with Amsterdam or Brussels and then onwards to Toulouse. Carcassonne, served by Ryanair, is just an hour south of Toulouse, and Rodez, approximately an hour from Le Pradel has daily flights from Stansted.
