Wide steps lead down into the pool, and there is a large tiled surround for sunbathing.

The property stands in a mature garden of 4000 square metres (1 acre approx). There are unobstructed views to the south and west, with woods to the east and north. The house is secluded, with no others in view. It is easily accessable from the quiet country road that runs close by.

The main house was built in 1965 in traditional Provencale style. It was substantially modernised when we became the owners in 1987. The wing was added in 1988 and we made sure that it was well insulated against summer heat and the cold snaps that occur in winter.

There is double glazing throughout, with rugs to cover the tiled floors. The furnishings are comfortable, and there are many pictures and prints on the walls to give a really homely feel. Our guests are always impressed by the high ceilings, large windows, and the generous dimensions of the rooms which give such an air of spaciousness.

About our region

Ten minutes walk from the house, across a vineyard and down a country lane, lies the little village of St Antonin. There is a shop for most everyday needs, a really good baker, a hotel with a restaurant and bar, and several domaines and caves, selling the wine for which the region is well known. In the summer there are fetes in the village, with music, singing and dancing, and, of course, eating and drinking. Everybody is welcome to take part. Each July there is a big band jazz festival, which attracts top musicians from many countries.

The countryside around is undulating, with forest on the higher ground and vineyards and olive groves on the slopes and in the valleys. There are several attractive chateaux and important houses, some of which you can visit. The area is ideal for walking and gentle hiking.

A little further away, about ten minutes by car, is the small town of Lorgues. Here there is a good selection of shops and facilites, restaurants to suit most tastes and pockets, and an excellent little cinema, showing French and international films very shortly after their release. The Tuesday market is renowned throughout the region.

Further afield.

Within an hour's drive of Les Castellans, you can get to the sea at Frejus, the mountains and lakes of Haute Provence, the famous towns of Nice, Cannes and Grasse, and the lovely old capital city of the region, Aix en Provence. All around are the charming villages for which Provence is famous. There are places and sights not to miss, such as The Abbaye du Thoronet, and the Gorge du Verdon to name but two.

Sports and Activities.

Tennis, golf, cricket, horseriding, and canoeing take place nearby. Further afield there is a water park at St Maxime, gliding, hang-gliding, windsurfing, sailing, white-water rafting, art exhibitions, concerts, recitals etc etc. We could go on, but there is really is a lot to do, even a slow and gentle ride on a donkey. But of course, if you just want to sit back, taste some wine, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, there's plenty of scope for that as well!

...Finally,

The wing is available throughout the year. The winters are short and for the most part mild, though the odd air-frost can occur in the early morning. There is always plenty of daylight compared with more northerly countries. Just the place for a cozy break to unwind and relax in complete tranquility.
