  About our region

Le Canadel has its own bay, with 400 yards of sandy beach, safe for swimming, just five to six minutes' walk from the house. Umbrellas and loungers can be hired on one part of the beach, where there is a small beach bar, but there is a large part of the beach without fixed umbrellas, cleaned daily and left natural. Windsurfing and waterskiing is available. There are no camping sites or high rise buildings in Le Canadel.

The nearest shops are in the next village in both directions, each five minutes away by car. The local 'Auberge' - 'Relais des Maures,' is 400 yards away, and serves delicious Provençal fare.

The Maure mountains leading down to the village provide beautiful views and walks, and there are many places of interest to visit, particularly the local 'Route des Vins.'

There are boat trips to the Iles d'Hyeres from Le Lavandou, and many excellent restaurants in the area. There is a folder in the house with places of interest and local restaurants which we recomment.

Two golf courses are within thirty minutes by car, and several more slightly further away.

About our property (sleeps 5/6)

Villa Le Paradou, built in the 1920s, is a charming, recently modernised house on the edge of the village of Le Canadel sur Mer, on the coast road, half way between Le Lavandou and Cavalaire.

In its own grounds of one third of an acre, the house has bougainvillaea, jasmine, and campsis creepers enlivening the walls. The flagged courtyard is always cool for sitting out, and looking at the picturesque garden, colourful with Mediterranean flowers and shrubs.

The garden is on three levels, terraced with stone retaining walls, and is surrounded by mature trees, mimosa, eucalyptus, conifers and palms. The second level is a small lawn flanked with orange, cherry, apricot and fig trees.

There is a large garage with a drive-in courtyard of white gravel.

The 30 foot pool is surrounded by a paved sun terrace, edged by shrubs and flowers.

There are views of the Mediterranean from the house, garden and pool.

On the ground floor, there is a spacious living room with french windows opening on to the courtyard. It has comfortable easy chairs and a sofa, a television/video, on which English terrestrial and Sky news programmes are available, and a radio cassette and CD player.

The small kitchen is well equipped, with an electric cooker, which has a ceramic hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and we have a second small oven with a rotisserie.

There is a shower room with a hand basin and a separate lavatory.

From the hallway, there is a curved stairway with a wrought iron banister leading to the upstairs landing.

On the first floor, there are two double bedrooms, one single bedroom, and a bathroom.

The main bedroom has a double bed and washbasin.

The second bedroom has two single beds, and the third has a single bed and washbasin.

There is room for an additional camp bed in the single bedroom, if needed.

The upstairs windows on the road side of the villa are double glazed, to minimise any noise of traffic.

The bathroom has a bath, washbasin and lavatory.

The house is fully equipped with china and cutlery.

Provençal tiles cover the floors throughout the house, and there are rugs in the living room and bedrooms.

There is a table and chairs for outside eating in the courtyard, and an efficient gas barbecue.

We have sunbeds by the pool, and an outside shower for cooling off, after the walk back to the house from the beach.

The house is cleaned every Saturday, and the pool is maintained weekly.
