La Vendange: Family Friendly Gites near La Rochelle, Four gites, Heated Pool, Very child friendly gites with enclosed gardens and toddler playground

Family friendly Charente-Maritime receives more hours of sunshine than any other department in Western France. The area is most famous for its unspoilt countryside and sandy beaches (and of course the seafood…)

The Nie valley (just East of St. Jean D’Angely) is about 40 mins drive inland from Rochfort and only 4 hrs drive from the port of St. Malo, our location is the midst of a part of hidden France, where time seems to have stood still for centuries. We are about 1hr drive from La Rochelle airport.

About our property

For families:

A former (Napoleonic era) farm, we are well established (nearly 10 years) and centrally located for easy access to both the coastal and many inland attractions of Charente-Maritime. All the cottages feature four poster beds and some have spa baths or tiled family-sized stone baths.

• Very child friendly gite complex set up especially for families with younger children (primary school age and younger)
• The communal toddler friendly lawn/swings area is enclosed, gated and within sight of all the cottages, so that parents can relax while the children play.
• In addition to the communal areas, all cottages have their own private outdoor areas with dining furniture, parasol and BBQ.
• The seaside and the coastal towns are an easy day out – many beaches within 1hr drive
• Three historic market towns within 15mins drive.
• Peaceful, quiet, rural valley location away from busy roads
• 50m2 Heated in-ground pool and splash pool in their own secure, fully enclosed area with lawn and sun-terrace
• Daily bread and croissant deliveries
• We leave a welcome bottle of local wine chilling in your fridge to help get you into the holiday mood after the long trip down !

For young children:

• Large, safe and secure communal lawn with 2 sets of Swings, slide, large shaded sandpit, hammock, trampoline, raised wooden Wendy house with slide, childrens outdoor toys and furniture are also included.
• Cots, high chairs, baby monitor, stairgates, toy and book boxes, strollers, plastic crockery, all provided F.O.C
• Baby sitting available (10 Euro/hr for up to 3 children)
• Short walk through the lovely old village to see geese, chickens, sheep, donkey, cows
• The heated swimming pool and splash pool are in an enclosed child-proof area, separated from the main lawn/playground by the car park and two gates.

For older children:

• Adjacent sports field (we organise weekly football matches during July/Aug: LaVendange vs “the other place”)
• Large selection of DVDs and Videos available
• Table tennis in the barn
• Badminton and boules in the garden
• Pool has underwater lighting for swims after dark !
• Superb cycling country. Gently undulating landscape of woods, sunflower and wheat fields (adult bikes available F.O.C, kids bikes available for hire locally)

About the cottages

• All three bedrooms. 1 or 2 bathrooms sleeping 5 – 7 persons + cot
• All cottages have been carefully renovated with original oak beams and stone walls left exposed.
• All master bedrooms feature four poster beds (mostly super-king sized with solid oak frames).
• All prices include initial bed linen, tea towels etc.
• Clean and well equipped but retaining their original stone and oak charm
• Dishwasher, washing machine, gas oven/hob, fridge-freezer, microwave all standard
• All cottages have private gardens or outdoor dining areas with table, chairs, BBQ, parasol etc.
• Initial Bed Linen included in price (change available at 5 Euro/bed)
• Most cottages have extra features eg. family-sized tiled baths, Jacuzzi, etc
• Fire extinguishers, fire blankets, smoke alarms are fitted in all cottages
• TV/DVD or TV/VHS are optional at 20Euro/week - includes a large box of kids and adults programs and films
• “Help yourself” Herb garden on site for the culinary minded
• The Owners have young children of their own and live nearby
