About our gite (sleeps 4 adults + 3 children)

Built of stone, with walls up to one meter thick and a traditional Charentaise arch, the oldest part of the house is at least 400 years old, while the newer parts were mainly built during the lifetime of Napoleon! The original building is said to have been a small garrison, going back 600 years, with windows in the cellar and roof areas shaped as embrasures.

The Gite offers a quiet, comfortable environment with modern services, in a country setting where you are as likely to see a tractor as a car.

Self contained, own front door opening onto a traditional Charentais courtyard.

Entry hall with clothes hanging for coats and shoe storage facilities.

2 Bedrooms with queen size double beds, wardrobes etc. Second bedroom also has a double Futon and single put-u-up. In total, sleeps 4 adults plus 3 children, with all bed and bath linen.

Guest Comments

We spent a really comfortable week at Tarsac. There was plenty of space to accommodate our three boys, and the gite was equipped with everything we could possibly want. All was spotless when we arrived and during the week we were spoiled with small gifts like a bowl of fresh mirabelles from one of the neighbour’s fruit trees.

Anthony and June are excellent hosts, not intrusive but there when you need them to be, with a fund of information and local knowledge that is beyond value. For a restful stay in a beautiful part of France I would thoroughly recommend L’abeille

Family G, Bedford

We spent a very happy 3 months in the gite at Tarsac while we were house hunting and found it to be extremely well kitted out with everything one could possibly need.  The two bedrooms were very spacious indeed and the huge beds very comfortable; lots of hanging and drawer space for clothes and shoes.  The living accommodation was well designed, with excellent cooker and fridge/freezer, dining table and chairs and comfortable seating for relaxing.  Good sized bathroom with plenty of hot water and a powerful shower.

The charming owners live adjoining the gite and were on hand if ever we needed contact.  The gite is set in a large sheltered courtyard, with lawn and flower beds and a patio area for summer eating.  The hamlet of Tarsac is peaceful, with typical houses and farms of the Charente, surrounded by fields of vines.

I am so very remiss in not writing sooner. I owe you a huge 'Thank You' for being so wonderful when I was staying with you. You were supportive and ever so helpful as well as so very gracious about all my knocks on the door and myriad questions -- thank you! Am still waiting for final word on mortgage but hopefully will hear in next few weeks and will then be a new neighbor. I will write again to get the name of that lovely young man you introduced me to for carpentry and other such renovations!

Dear Anthony and June,

We would like to thank you for making us so welcome during our stay in your Gite. It was very comfortable, with everything we would need supplied.

We were there in December but were not at all cold. You were very helpful, giving us tips about the area, shops, where to eat, places to see etc, but at the same time you were not at all intrusive.

We really enjoyed ourselves.

Mr & Mrs E, Birchington, Kent

About our region

The Charente has many attractive towns and villages, set in rolling countryside in a traditional yet vital region. In a never-ending vista of vineyards, growing grapes for Cognac and table wine is still the dominant activity, alongside crops of sweetcorn, sunflowers and wheat.

The area is a popular tourist region, close to Cognac, Jarnac, Segonzac, Rouillac and Chateauneuf, while Bordeaux, Poitiers, Confolens, Royan, La Rochelle, Isle de Re, Isle de Oleron, Perigueux, Limoges, are not too far away. Then onward north to the Loire Valley, or south to Dordogne, Bergerac, Riberac and so on. Main roads are good, with light traffic most of the time and the area is a most attractive place to live, increasingly chosen by people buying vacation and retirement homes.

Local Facilities and Tourism

For eating out, you can choose from the pavement bars, gourmet restaurants and bistros of Angouleme, Jarnac and Cognac, while nearer home there are relais, pizza take-aways, etc.

Activities available within about 8 km include swimming, boating, sailing, fishing and of course walking. Coastal activities are within 90 minutes drive at Royan.

Local Events

There is a large variety of events available. In Angouleme, Bande Dessinée (strip cartoon) conference and permanent museum display, Rampart Rally for vintage cars, Piano in Valois season, Angoulême Saison de Grande Orgue. In Cognac, Jazz and Blues Festival, frequent one-night concerts. Throughout the region almost every village offers exhibitions of local fare, markets, cultural events, open air dinners. There are plenty of things to do here, all year round. Information is always available in our Gite office.

Getting there

Approach routes from the UK by car include Dover or Folkestone to Calais, or further south through Cherbourg, Le Havre, Roscoff, St Malo, travelling on to Angouleme via A10 or N10, or a picturesque route of your own design.
