About our region

Sainte Hermine is a quiet, friendly village full of history, with it's 17th century chateau built on the ruins of an ancient fortress. An assortment of small shops and restaurants can be found in the village, with the local market taking place every Friday. For many villagers it is a ritual, where local produce can be tasted then bought if desired, including fresh fish, meats, cheeses and honey.

The Vendée

The vast, sandy beaches of the Vendée, backed with fragrant pine forests are a 45 minute drive away. Golfers will find a selection of courses within an hours drive. The Mervent national park is a short drive, as is the world famous chateau of Le Puy de Fou - an excellent medieval theme park.

The Parc de Pierre Brun is a super place for children of all ages !!! For a small entry fee a great day out can be had, on the bumper boats, bouncy castles, crazy golf, mini train and much much more! The forest surrounding the park is a great place to explore with a lot of areas for picnics and ball games.

Luçon is about 10 minutes away and has a wonderful selection of shops and boutiques, as well as three hypermarkets, as does the historical town of Fontenay le Comte. Mareuil sur Lay, well known for its production of wines, is just up the road. It is possible to follow the wine trails, inspect the vineyards and visit the cellars, where there are always plenty of glasses of the local brew to try before you buy!
