A water mill and delightful mill house with swimming pool set in large grounds with 2 small islands offering a very pleasant and private area for relaxing beside the river, but only a couple of minutes walk to the village centre or 30 minutes drive to the Atlantic beaches.

The mill house is situated on the edge of the river Lay, which offers plenty of fishing opportunities for bream, roach, carp, pike, perch and catfish etc. and there are also fishing lakes nearby.

The surrounding countryside offers plenty of opportunity for walking, cycling, picnics or taking in the wildlife and birds. The amount of bird life in this area of the Vendee varies from Red Kites and Buzzards to Bee-eaters, Hoopoes, Kingfishers and many more.

The Atlantic coast is only half an hours drive, with its miles of clean and golden sandy beaches. The famous and interesting port of La Rochelle is within forty minutes, and similarly distanced is the lovely seaside town of Les Sables D'Olonne, now famed as the starting place of the Vendee Globe Yacht Race.

The attractive cathedral town of Lucon is within ten minutes drive of Le Moulin. Artfully trained and pollarded trees form green arches in summer above the roads leading to the centre, which is dominated as much by the crazily decorated water tower north of the Champ-de-Foire, as by the elegant 85m spire of the cathedral, flood-lit by night.

Mareuil-sur-Lay

Is a very picturesque wine producing market town on the River Lay, dominated by the spire of its Romanesque church and 16th century chateau.
A sign posted "route des vins" leads to some of the many local vineyards where wine tastings are available (full details from the local tourist office). There are bars, bistros, and restaurants as well as the usual shops, doctors, chemists, dentists, banks, supermarket and post office just a few minutes walk from your holiday base.

A water mill and delightful mill house with swimming pool set in large grounds with 2 small islands offering a very pleasant and private area for relaxing beside the river, but only a couple of minutes walk to the village centre or 30 minutes drive to the Atlantic beaches.

We have comfortable double, twin or family rooms. All rooms have a shower, toilet and wash basin en suite.

For our full 'Run of the Mill' holiday, a full continental breakfast and picnic lunch are included in the price. There is a lounge with TV and video and a mini kitchen with microwave, fridge, sink and washing machine, also DIY barbecue facilities for the use of our guests at all  times. ("Home from Home" without the chores of preparing breakfast and lunch).

The cost of the holiday includes free use of the "Toy Box" consisting of sailing dinghies, sailboards, and catamarans for sailing on the nearby lakes, river boats with electric outboard for use on the river, bikes, fishing rods, swimming pool, badminton, and volley ball. As we have a maximum of 10 guests at any time there is no shortage of equipment.

We are not a sailing school so use of our sailing craft is for competent helms. With a contribution towards overnight mooring costs, we can take you day sailing on our 33' yacht "Peppermint" off the Biscay coast visiting the interesting ports of the Vendee and Charente Maritime.
