About our
region
The beautiful Mayenne region
links Basse Normandy and Loire and both regions can be
accessed from the cottage.
The climate is generally colder in the winter and hotter
in the summer than the south of England.
The landscape is full of rolling green fields and small
forests with lots of grazing cows everywhere.
Courcite area
Small friendly village with
church, patisserie, shop and bar ( great for lunch or an
afternoon aperitif ) all within 2 minutes walk from
cottage.
Le Mans is a 40 minute drive away and perfect for a day
out shopping and cafe / bar hopping.
The hourly trains to Paris that take 58 minutes mean it
is also a great place to park the car and whizz off to
the capital for some serious retail therapy and culture.
Closer to home every village seems to have a great place
to meet and chill in. The locals are so friendly and the
pace of life is exactly what you expect.
Within 15 km there are two lakes for both swimming and
fishing or just a day out with a picnic, an open air
swimming pool, and horse riding. Laval has a fabulous
golf course and there are plenty of historical buildings
to visit nearby.
Getting
there
Many ferry options, but the most
economical is Speed Ferries from Dover to Boulogne and
then a 3 hour 45 minute drive to the cottage.
Other options include overnight ferry from Portsmouth to
either Caen ( Brittany ferries ) or Le Havre ( LD Lines )
and then 2 1/2 hour drive.
