About
our region St Lucien is a peaceful village in the Pays de Bray, which is cheese and cider country. In fact, Neufchatel cheese is the oldest of all the Normandy cheeses. The country is rolling with
picturesque villages and attractive valleys. The
'buttonhole' of Bray is a long depression running from
Beauvais almost as far as Dieppe. We are on the edge of the forest of Lyons, an ideal spot for both walkers and cyclists. There are also châteaux, museums and gardens (including Monet's garden at Giverny) which welcome visitors. We are fifteen minutes from the spa town of Forges-les-Eaux with its famous casino, and fifteen minutes in the other direction will take you to the picturesque forest village of Lyons-La-Forêt or Ry, famed as the home of Flaubert's 'Madame Bovary.' The beautiful old city of Rouen
and the attractive valley of the Seine are only about
half an hour away, and Paris and the resorts on the
Normandy coast make good days out. Le Chaudron Gite (Self catering sleeps 4) After having successfully run our
Chambres d'Hôtes business for eight years in the village
of St Lucien, we have now opened our second property 'Le
Chaudron' as a gite, and extend a warm welcome to guests
to our beautiful, carefully restored 200 year old
Normandy longère. It is situated in the hamlet
of Le Grand Mont Alix which is just two kilometres A dining kitchen which has a feature fireplace with a wood burning stove. The kitchen is fully fitted with gas hob and electric oven, microwave and fridge. The sitting rooom, with settee and armchairs, has an open
fire. Bedroom 1, the main double bedroom, has en suite facilities, including a shower. Bedroom 2 is a twin bedded room. Separate bathroom. There is also a small area where the washing machine is situated. Every room is fitted with independent electric radiators so that guests are free to choose the level of heating that suits them in each of the rooms. As an old cottage, the property has the benefit of open beams and in some rooms (particularly the kitchen and the twin bedroom), they are low ones, and care should be taken when entering. Les
Quatre Oiseaux (Chambres d'Hôtes, 2 bedrooms) Breakfast and
evening meals are served in our living room, which in
cooler weather is heated by a wood burning fire. From
Calais: From Dieppe: Take the D915 to Forges-les-Eaux. (We think you will find it easier to turn left into Dieppe centre ville from the port rather than follow toutes directions). At the town square in Forges (traffic lights), turn right onto the D921. Then follow the same directions as from Calais. From Le Havre (Avoiding Rouen): Take
the A29 (péage) as far as the St Saens exit. Transfer to
the A28 (free) in the direction of Rouen. Take the first
exit, turn left, and drive into Buchy. In Buchy centre
(the Halles are on your left), turn right at the
crossroads on the D41 and continue to Bois Guilbert. Be
careful at a complicated junction halfway along this
stretch - keep left up the hill on a sweeping bend. You
are still on the D41. Go through Bois Guilbert to a
crossroads where you will turn right to La
Chapelle-St-Ouen. Continue along this road (D38) all the
way to St Lucien (also signposted Nolléval). In St
Lucien, keep left at the first junction after the church.
We are the last building on the right at the next turning
- a white house marked Gites de France. Le Chaudron
We ask for a returnable deposit (caution) of £150.00. Prices are fully inclusive of bedding (though we ask you to provide your own personal towels), gas and water. They include a daily electricity allowance of 8kWh. Anything used in addition to this will be charged as taken. Les Quatre Oiseaux (Bed & Breakfast)
A cot and high chair are available on request. Jeanette and Keith ( both being former teachers in Uganda ) are keen supporters of the Dream Scheme in Uganda which undertakes community projects with some of the poorest children in that country.
