  About our property

Le Moulin is a detached 18th century stone built mill housewhich has been recently renovated to provide a high standard of accommodation. Eight acres of grounds with river nearby ensure peace and tranquillity so typical of this part of Normandy. The house is ideally located as a base for exploring one of the most beautiful and varied regions of France.

As you cross our private river over the bridge you enter upon the island that is Le Moulin de Mandeville, an island that has been the second home of our family for about fourteen years.

For the duration of your stay you will be our guests. You are free to enjoy the house and all it offers; free to walk the fields or paddle in the river (there are a few fish but you may have a long wait).

From the front garden you may enter the house through the breakfast room which comfortably seats six, the breakfast bar a further four. French doors to the South offer an open aspect across the fields to La Dives - a National river which forms our easterly perimeter.

The kitchen is fitted with electric hob, oven and microwave. There is a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and all normal small appliances and kitchen utensils. User manuals are in one of the drawers.

The dining room easily seats eight. In the sideboard are table-cloths, place mats and dining utensils. The wood burning fire is seldom used as the central heating is more than adequate. Through the exit door, steps lead down to patio 'apéritif' and the front garden.

The sitting room, with French doors, is a beautiful place to while away a few hours listening to the river cascading over the mill. The (somewhat ancient) stereo system manages Radio 4 but struggles to find Classic FM. In colder weather there is nothing more homely than sitting by the log fire. Logs can be found behind the walled garden (kitchen side) and sticks in the wood shed at the end of this wall, entrance through the garden.

For the more active, the games room offers snooker (please be careful with the cloth) and darts; backgammon, chess, drafts pinball and cards are also available. If you do take from the bar we ask you to replenish accordingly.

On the first floor there are three double bedrooms (one with shower/WC), and a twin bedded room with an interconnecting single bedroom. Duvets and pillows supplied, not bed linen.

There are two fully fitted bathrooms + Shower Room on this floor.

Access to the garage is outside to the rear. Bicycles are for your use.

The fenced garden is for your sole enjoyment; beyond the Country Code applies. You may have to share our fields with the cows. Treated kindly they will not impose upon your freedom to enjoy the rest of the island. If in doubt, you may wish to ‘beat the bounds’ on the river side of the bared wire fence but be cautious because the walk is narrow in places.

You may also wish to cross the weir at the southern end of the fields - beside the green gate, across the field and along the tow path between the two rivers. Here you will find our wilderness - but the snowdrops may have gone.

Le Moulin de Mandeville loves people. Treated well, the mill will care for you, cater for your every need and provide a superb setting from which to explore the countryside - both near and far, for there is so much to see. We so very much hope you will enjoy your stay; that you will return home exhilarated, refreshed and with fond memories of what we call ‘our little corner of France’.

About our region

Normandy is rural France at its most civilised; a green and pleasant land that offers the serenest of holidays. The departments of Calvados and Orne form the heart of ‘Basse-Normandie’ and it is on the border, between the villages of Crocy and Trun, where you will find Le Moulin de Mandeville.

The nearest shops, bank and public telephone are in Trun, about 4km to the South. The (Shopi) supermarket is excellent; three bakers and two butchers ensure competition is rife and provisions of good quality. The market is on Thursday. Many other shops, amenities (including a swimming pool and a museum) and places of interest can be found in Falaise, 12 km to the north.
