La Thiaumerie is located 15km south of the departemental capital of Saint Lo, in St Louet sur Vire, a hamlet just outside the 4 flower “village fleurie” of Domjean. The house is situated deep in the heart of the beautiful Norman Bocage; the area of raised hedgerows and sunken lanes in the hinterland of the famous D-Day landing beaches of 1944.

La Thiaumerie is a stone-built farmhouse, typical of the Manche region of Normandy. It is set in half an acre of gardens where there is plenty of furniture for our guests to sit and admire the views over open countryside in summer, or there is a comfortably furnished guest lounge, with its welcoming woodburning stove, in which to sit and relax or read a book in winter. We bought our house in 1999 and have continued to sympathetically renovate and restore it so that now we are able to offer 3 lovely double en-suite bedrooms, a lounge for the exclusive use of our guests and a large dining room where we serve breakfast and evening meals.

B&B in 3 en-suite rooms

We offer two double bedrooms which have been tastefully decorated in traditional French fabrics and a third double room with a twin room attached, making it a perfect family suite:

Toile de Jouy (Sleeps 2)

This is our smallest but still cosy and adequately sized double bedroom. Being on the ground floor it is ideal for those who find the stairs a little troublesome. It has a large en-suite shower room and WC.

Picardie Room (sleeps 2/3)

Our first floor bedroom with it’s pretty pink and cream décor, cream iron bed and private bathroom, overlooks the courtyard and garden and is accessed by it’s own staircase from the guest lounge. A baby’s cot or campbed for a young child can be provided for this room.

Green Room/Family Suite (Sleeps 2/5)

At the far end of the house, with a separate entrance, our family suite is located on the first and second floors. The double room is large and comfortable, with it’s own settee and views over the courtyard and garden. A staircase leads from within this room to an attic room with exposed beams which can accommodate up to three children. The main room can also be let as a double.

Meals

There are several very good restaurants within fifteen minutes of La Thiaumerie but because we know that some guests like the comfort of not having to drive out again after a “hard day’s sightseeing” or travelling, we do offer evening meals by prior arrangement.

Whenever possible we use local produce and offer an option of a 3 or 4 course meal, including wine and coffee for 24€ or 28€ per person. We can also provide a 2 course children’s meal at 10€ for children under 12.

About our region

This is a lovely area of natural beauty with rolling hills, winding lanes, gurgling streams and of course the obligatory apple orchards and dairy cattle that Normandy is famous for.

We are well located for visiting most of the famous sites of Normandy, being only 40 minutes from the charming medieval town of Bayeux, with its beautiful half-timbered buildings and cobbled streets, but equally, only 40 minutes from the magnificent World Heritage site of Mont St Michel on the borders of Brittany. To the north are the D-Day landing beaches of WW2 and we are well-placed for visiting either the US, Canadian or British beaches, which span a length of coastline of some 80km. St Malo, Deauville and Honfleur are all easy day trips, as is Falaise, the birthplace of William the Conqueror.

There is something for everyone in this corner of Normandy, be it lazing on a beautiful deserted (as they so often are) sandy beach, walking along rugged cliff-tops;, visiting the many museums telling the history of the WW2 landings, the Norman invasion of Britain or the history of the Christian Dior house of fashion; visiting colourful markets, or sitting in a pavement café, just watching the world go by.

For the more energetic there are endless sporting activities to enjoy. We are only minutes from an equestrian centre, there are wonderful on and off-road cycle routes, walks, canoeing, fishing, golf or even bungy jumping and we are happy to help you arrange any of these during your stay at La Thiaumerie.

Getting there

La Thiaumerie is less than a ten minute drive from junction 40 of the A84 autoroute, which makes it a perfect place to stop overnight enroute from the Channel ports to the south or home again.

We are only 45 minutes from the ferry port of Caen/Ouistreham, an hour from Cherbourg and approximately 90 minutes from St Malo and Le Havre.

Ryanair runs flights from Stansted or East Midlands to Dinard and Stansted to Deauville, both of which are only about 75 minutes from La Thiaumerie.
