| About
our property B&B
La Metairie is a beautifully
restored three hundred year old traditional Normandy Farmhouse, offering
an exclusive welcome to overnight and long stay visitors
alike. We invite guests to enjoy our four acre
smallholding set in the heart of rural Normandy.
There is ample room for children
to play on extensive lawns, away from busy roads. The
summer house and outside furniture give the opportunity
to relax on warm tranquil evenings after the hustle and
bustle of exploring the nearby beaches and mediaeval
towns.
Four rooms offer a choice of accommodation to meet most
needs.
The family suite includes two
adjoining rooms to give children both security and
independence. The rooms all have private bathrooms.
The rooms are tastefully
furnished and two of the double rooms have king sized
beds. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in
all of the rooms as are hairdryers. Up to date
information folders are available, giving details of
places of interest.
For the comfort of all of our guests, we are a no
smoking establishment, and would appreciate it if
you would respect this restriction. You are welcome to
smoke on the terrace at the front of the house where
ashtrays are available for your use. We are unable to
accept pets.
On our smallholding we have created and tender an
extremely productive half acre, organic vegetable and
fruit garden.
We combine the produce from the
garden, together with meat and eggs from our sheep and
poultry to create wholesome and interesting evening meals. Four courses
can be enjoyed, with wine and coffee, preceded by an
aperitif. On warm summer nights we share the evening
meals in the ambience of our well appointed summer house.
We operate a gluten free kitchen and welcome both
coeliacs and vegetarians. Fresh bread and croissants are
of course available to non coeliacs for breakfast along
with a full range of delicious home made preserves.
We are part of a farming community and many culinary
delights can be found within easy reach. These do, of
course, include world famous cheeses, cider and calvados.
Several towns, including nearby Avranches, hold bustling
weekly markets, with an array of stalls selling regional
produce from local farms and craftsmen. As expected,
seafood is a prominent feature on these occasions. As
well as filling your basket, you can give in to
temptation of freshly made galettes.
About our
region
Normandy is deeply entrenched in history, and the most
notable feature or the area is Mont St. Michel. This
fascinating geological and historical edifice has ben the
site of the most numerous pilgrimages since early
mediaeval times, when many devotees suffered drowning in
their attempts to wade the often treacherous waters to
its shores. (There is now a road).
By comparison, the importance of the second world war
gives modern historians the chance to visit the many
nearby landing beaches as well as museums. The most
famous of these is the Memorial Museum at
Caen.
Such historic towns as Bayeux, Fougeres, Coutances,
Villedieu des Poeles and St. Malo are all within easy
reach and offer a wealth of opportunities for day visits.
Families with children will enjoy a wide variety of
places to visit: there are excellent safe beaches above
and below Granville which are within easy reach. Zoos,
aquariums and theme parks are also easy to find.
We can advise you on interesting nearby walking and
cycling routes, some of which make use of a disused
railway line, virtually on our doorstep.
We can certainly help with transport where linear walks
are preferred.
There are some beautiful historic gardens in Normandy,
some of which are fairly close by, and well worth
visiting.

Getting
There
Avranches is on the top of a hill: it is important to
keep to the right of the town and reach the large church
which will be on your left hand side.
Keep straight on until you reach Place Patton
(a roundabout to the top right of Avranches, with a world
war two American tank in the middle of it).
Take the D47 (towards Isigny le
Buat) past Leclerc supermarket, for six
miles. You will see a tractor depot on both sides of the
road. Take the next turning on your left, the D106 to La
Boulouze, at the top of the hill. Then immediately take
the right fork. We are 300 m. on the left at the bottom
of the dip. You will see the sign La
Metairie. We look forward to meeting you.
Please enclose a deposit of £20 with written
confirmation as soon as possible after a telephone
booking. A secure reservation will then be made.
We would appreciate it if final settlement be made in
euros.
Le
Petit Marron Gite (Sleeps 2)
Sitting cosily in four acres of gardens and orchards, surrounded by Normandy countryside, Le
Petit Marron is the perfect two person gite for a holiday
or short break at any time of the year.
Adjoining the main house, the
gite forms part of an old barn. It has two floors, the
upper floor enjoying lovely views across the gardens and
neighbouring fields.
The king sized
bed lies beneath exposed beams, with ensuite facilities
and walk in wardrobe close at hand.
Downstairs,
there is a well equipped kitchen and living / dining
room, with a wood burning
stove for lets in the cooler parts of the year.
Through the French windows, visitors step onto a small
private terrace with comfortable outside furniture, ideal
for relaxing in the sunshine or eating al fresco,
overlooking the gardens.

your own towels for the beach. A clothes' horse will be
provided for drying hand washing.

road from there is an excellent boulangerie, open every
day except Monday and Sunday afternoon. We are also happy
to sell produce from the garden when there is a surplus.
