About
our region Karen and Francois Tijssen extend a warm welcome. Come and enjoy an unforgettable holiday in our informal guesthouse, situated in the midst of beautiful Normandy. La Manche-Cotentin is the peninsula of Normandy, surrounded by the sea, with beautiful golden sandy beaches with pretty harbours, high cliffs and woods. It has a microclimate and is bathed by the warm Gulf Stream. This dramatic coastline has not yet been discovered by mass tourism, and still retains a wonderful charm. Chateau Le Val is situated in the heart of the countryside, just outside the village of Brix (5 minutes walking distance). Brix is an ancient village, high upon a hill, once the feudal domain of the Bruces, ancestors of Scotland's famous king Robert the Bruce. In Brix there is a tennis court, golf course, (9 holes), a bakery, a post office, a medical centre, a chemist, a riding school and a good restaurant. Within driving distance from the chateau, there is the ocean with its superb bathing beaches (20 minutes), hypermarkets (10 minutes), the ferry port of Cherbourg (20 minutes), restaurants (5 minutes), an animal park (20 minutes), lovely local markets (10 minutes) in Bricquebec, Cherbourg and Valognes. There are many places of interest
to see in the region, including the Mont St Michel, the
D-Day landing beaches, monuments and museum, and the
American and British cemetery. There are bric-a-brac
markets in spring and summer, the Sea Life centre in
Cherbourg, medieval festivals, and day trips to the
Channel Islands of Guernsey, Jersey and Sark. There are
abbeys and cathedrals, for example in the historic
Normandy towns of Coutances and Bayeux, and of course,
the famous Bayeux Tapestry itself. You can walk across
the causeway to Ile de Tatihou near St Vaast la Houge, go
sea or trout fishing, or visit the Botanical Gardens. The
wealth of acitvities in this area plus the wonderful
coastline will make this a holiday to remember. Just outside the village of Brix,
via a long avenue of old oak trees, you drive into the
peaceful valley of 'Le Val.' Chateau Le Val is a manor
house, rebuilt in the 16th century, with original
features from the 12th century. Here you still find birds of prey, squirrels, rabbits, foxes, owls and pheasants. The peaceful character and serene environment are remarkable. You can enjoy a walk through the maize fields and small hamlets around the chateau. Every season has its charm here. During a spring holiday, the apple blossom, huge purple rhodedendrons and a green valley filled with flowers and birdsong will steal your heart. The gardens, with their wooden garden furniture, offer pretty places to sit and relax. Under the centuries old Cedar of Lebanon in the garden are 2 large barbecues for a garden party. There is a children's playground
with a sand pit, a lovely In the summer, the clear ocean with its beautiful long sandy beaches gives you a fantastic day out, swimming, sunbathing and playing on the sand. Coming home after a relaxing day on the beach you could enjoy a glass of wine, some bread and French cheese, in a calm and peaceful little corner of the gardens. For a romantic break in autumn or winter, we offer a pleasant stay with central heating and cosy evenings around a log fire. It is possible to have an apartment with television and video, with lots of good English films to borrow. Chateau Le Val offers a selection
of self catering apartments, bed and breakfast rooms, or
alternatively, you can rent the whole chateau. for a
special occasion such as a party, a wedding anniversary,
or for a family holiday. The chateau is also ideal for
companies, for product presentations, staff parties,
workshops and meetings or courses. Self Catering Apartments Within the chateau are several apartments, catering from 2 to 8 people, which can be rented separately. A weekly let is normally from Saturday to Saturday, although in low season days of arrival and departure may be altered to suit your requirements. Rental per night is also possible. Bed linen is available for hire on request. Each apartment is stylishly furnished and well equipped, and the accommodation comprises a kitchen, cosy living room, bathroom and between 1 - 3 bedrooms. All the apartments have central heating and some also have a log fire. Bed & Breakfast, Chambres d'Hôtes The chateau has elegant double rooms and family rooms with lovely views. Each bedroom has a private bathroom and toilet. A family room has one or two bedrooms.
One of our romantic rooms has access via the 16th century tower. It is a very comfortable bed-sitting room with a double bed, lovely antique furniture, stone fireplace and central heating. There is a TV and video (with films to hire), a fridge, an en-suite bathroom with shower,washbasin and WC. Rental of the whole chateau (10 +) people For a special occasion such as a party, a wedding anniversary, or for a family holiday, you can rent the whole chateau, exclusively for your group! You might like to spend a theme weekend, for instance for culture, music, tennis competitions, golf, riding or walking, or perhaps make the chateau your base whilst you explore the landing beaches, the markets or the gardens of the region.
This large holiday home offers a lot of privacy, with several rooms and self catering apartments within the chateau. You can choose to have your own part of the house, whilst still enjoying each other's company as a group, eating in the splendid dining room on the ground floor which has a medieval atmosphere with lots of candles, old niches and a huge stone fireplace. We also offer accommodation for smaller groups in a wing of the chateau with a private dining room. The chateau is an intimate location to celebrate your marriage amongst close friends and family. The Roman Catholic Church is within walking distance, and for the bride and groom, we offer a romantic stay in the honeymoon suite with a nice gift on arrival. For Christmas and New Year, the
chateau is adorned with Christmas decorations and
Christmas tree, making it a perfect place to celebrate
