Family Holiday Home Sleeps 6/8

Beauvais, near Bossay

Click here to email owner   About our region

Beauvais is a comfortable holiday home in the south of the rural Loire Valley, on the fringes of the Brenne wetlands national park.

It is available to rent all year round and offers the opportunity to explore a beautiful area rich both in history and culture and in wildlife. Owned by a family - it was formerly a family home - it is equipped beyond the average 'holiday house for rent' in France.

Things to do on your holiday:

If you want to relax on your holiday then you will not find a more tranquil and idyllic region in France than the Val de Loire: the lush 'Garden of France'. But if it's activities you're after, there's loads to do...

With families:

  • Haute Touche - open air wildlife park with wild boar, giraffe, wolves, bison, birds of prey.
  • Futuroscope - famous cinematic theme park near Poitiers.
  • Loches - traditional French market town where everyone can spend their pocket money.
  • St Aignan Zoo - famed for its white tigers.

Places to visit:

  • Tours - a modern city with many ancient aspects.
  • Villandry - where the formal gardens are more famous than the chateau - with nearby the pre-historic grottes at Savonnieres.
  • Descartes - visit the birthplace of the famous philosopher, shop at the Sunday morning market or swim in the local pool.
  • Le Grand Pressigny - for its 'fetes folkloriques', crumbling chateau and archaeological museum.
  • Blois - with its famous spiral staircase, Catherine de Medici's poison cupboard and Houdini's House of Magic.
  • Chinon - historic town whose chateau has a dedicated Joan of Arc museum.
  • Amboise- fairytale chateau, and nearby Le Clos-Luce where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years.

Wildlife:

  • Butterflies - over 60 species of butterflies and dragonflies including swallowtails and Camberwell beauties
  • Orchids
  • Nightingales
  • Red squirrels

Birdwatching:

The house is on the edge of the Brenne National Park, an area of small lakes and grazing land, which is an important stopover for migratory birds. Over 260 species have been observed in the Brenne, with over 150 species nesting in the area.

There are a number of hides with one specially for observing the rare European Pond Tortoise. At the beginning of May the house itself is surrounded by nightingales - magical!

Markets!

  • Le Blanc - a pleasant country town on the river Creuse
  • La Roche Posay - with roundabouts for small children
  • St Maure de Touraine - with its ancient covered market hall
  • Chatellerault - go early to the Friday morning market or anytime to the hypermarkets
  • There's a market somewhere every day, in fact!

Outdoor activities:

  • Cycling
  • Walking
  • Swimming
  • Sailing

Seasonal Events:

As the week is marked out by the daily market - in a different town or village every day, so the year has its seasonal events, often in this area agriculture-based, such as the Foire au Laine (Wool Fair) in July, the Foire aux Melons (Melon Fair) in August and the Fetes du Vin in the Autumn.

In the house you will find a folder packed with information about these and dozens of other events, from the Fete des Andouillettes - where one goes to ride on the dodgems and eat offal sausages, to the Feast of the Assumption when everyday life stops for some sort of fete, barbecue or bric-a-brac sale to celebrate the ascension to heaven of the Virgin Mary - well, you can go to church as well!

About our Property (sleeps 6/8)

The house sits in a large, enclosed garden - safe for children - on the edge of the hamlet of Beauvais, surrounded by open farmland and woods. It 2 km from the village of Bossay (post office, church, small shops) and 5 km from the quiet town of Preuilly (shops & weekly market, bank with ATM, bars, restaurant).

The house is comfortable and well-equipped.

Originally a barn, this spacious house has been modernised and has central heating.

There is a large well-equipped kitchen, a big sitting-room with open fire, and an enclosed verandah running across the back of the house.

There are two large bedrooms: bedroom 1 with two single beds, and bathroom - with bath, bidet, basin & toilet - ensuite.

Bedroom 2 with four single beds and a bathroom - with shower, basin & toilet - adjacent.

There is a third toilet on the ground floor.

Further accommodation is available, if wished, in the La Petite Maisonpetite maison which stands 12 ft from the main house and is made up of two rooms: one on the ground floor, with two Z-beds, and one above, reached by an outside staircase and presently used as a studio.

The house is our family property and is well-equipped with radios/stereos, binoculars & bird books, games, dictionaries & maps and plenty of good reading. (Please note that it is a non-smoking house and we ask you to respect that.) There is a barbecue and outside furniture.

There is a double open garage. Beyond the large enclosed garden is an open area of (mowed) field which also belongs to the house.

It is a lovely place simply to relax in, with a book in the shade of the giant yew tree in summer and by the fire in winter, or having a barbecue as the sun goes down while you enjoy the view across the fields to the church spire in the distance - and knowing, if you have children with you, that they can run about freely in safety. After a day out, there's nothing like it!
