  About our region

Where is Banyuls sur Mer?

Banyuls is 45 minutes drive from Perpignan and 1 hour drive from Barcelona. There is a good train service between these cities and many of the trains stop at Banyuls. Banyuls is one of four small towns, which lie on the Mediterranean at the foothills of the Pyrenees. Cerbere, Banyuls, Porte Vendre and the must be visited Collioure. A short drive along the coast, through little Cerbere, and you will find yourself in Spain. Continue along the coast and visit the home of Dali and the Cava region. Point yourself in the opposite direction and visit the vineyards in the valley of the river Têt , and drive up into Les Albères, or continue along the route La Catalane to Fitou.

About Banyuls

Stroll down to the beach, sit in a café, sip a glass of Banyuls wine, and watch the world go by, while the more energetic of you can go wind surfing, kayaking, sailing or snorkelling. Alternatively, you could follow the well marked coastal paths. For the very energetic Banyuls lies at the end of the G10 footpath which runs the length of the Pyrenees, from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean coast.

Visit the website of Banyuls and its webcam to see Banyuls and how the Mediterranean looks today;
www.banyuls-sur-mer.com

Traditionally Banyuls earned its living fishing and producing wine and has its own unique wine called Banyuls. Today the seas along its coast have been designated as a Marine Sanctuary, but Banyuls still makes plenty of wine. There are guided walks through the terraced vineyards and wineries.

A short journey, walk or take the bus, and you will find many little coves, some sandy and some rocky, to spend your day swimming and sunbathing.

End your day by dining al fresco in one of the many restaurants along the seafront; feel the warm breeze and watch the lights reflecting of the sea. Turn around, watch, and listen to the music coming from the town’s bandstand. If you still have enough energy, get up and join in the Sardane; the traditional dance of this Catalan region. During the mid and high seasons free entertainment is provided near the sea front at weekends.

About the apartment (sleeps 4)

It sits at the back of the old town, in a residential area, Terrace Viewslooking inland towards the Pyrenees and the Chapelle de la Salette. Two doors away is the 14th Century Church of the Rectory.
