About our region

The Cerdagne - a kind of high plateau with lush gentle valleys and rolling meadows, brimming with wild flowers in early summer, surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks that rise a further 1600m. Half French, half Spanish. The Conflent - a steep and rugged valley, cut by the River Têt's descent to the Mediterranean sea.

The Capcir - a pine forested high land with mountain lakes, grottos and gorges, and the source of the River Aude to be found somewhere amongst the 14 summits of the Capcir.

Quaintly known as "The Nice of the Cerdagne", Bajande & Estavar enjoy an exceptional all year round microclimate, "3000hrs sunshine per year".

A little known region other than with the French and Spanish, who in July and August come up from the Mediterranean to escape the often sweltering heat of the coastal plains. And in winter, for the skiing - cheaper and less crowded than the Alps. Now classified as a Regional Nature Park since the end of 2003.

Spanish border town of Puigcerda.
Good shops, lively Sunday market, restaurants.
A further 30 minutes to Andorra (Pas de la Casa). Most notable for its duty-free shopping.

The famous all year round "Petit Train Jaune", narrow-gauge mountain train with open-top carriages in Summer snakes its way down through spectacular scenery to Medieval fortified Villefranche-de Conflent and the Grottos of the "Grandes Canalettes".

Cathar Castles perched on high craggy pinnacles in the Ariège.

For Mediterranean coast, the rugged picturesque coastline where the Pyrenees meets the sea has pretty, hidden coves, attractive fishing ports with stylish restaurants.

Barcelona (2 hrs. drive) lively city, rich in history and architecture. Highly recommended.

Local activities ~ over 30 sports ~ Swimming: 3 indoor & 3 outdoor pools, rivers & lakes, 3 all year round open-air thermal pools & jacuzzis.

Windsurfing & dinghy sailing on nearby lake. Rafting, 3 summer mountain chair lifts, pot holing, rock-climbing sites, hang-gliding. Lake & river fishing, golf (international course at Puigcerda). Mountain bike hire, indoor Olympic ice-rink & swimming pool. Superb horse-riding and of course walking to suit all abilities.

Winter skiing - 12 downhill resorts and 200km of cross-country pistes. For further skiing information please click here.

Further tourist information at the properties.

Superb walking, cycling, winter skiing, thermal pools and "Little Yellow Train" station.

Local mountain bike hire.

Puigcerda, lively Spanish market town 10mins; duty-free Andorra 45mins ; Perpignan 1½hr, Barcelona, and Toulouse 2hrs.
