  About our region

Les Rosiers is situated at the edge of Ceret about 1½ km from the town centre. Ceret and its surroundings offer a variety of restaurants, tree-shaded pavement cafes, a walled old town, an unusual old foot bridge called Devil's Bridge and the Museum of Modern Art, which is fortunate in having some original works of artists such as Picasso, Chagall and Braque, all of whom lived in this picturesque town for a time.

Ceret provides ample parking both in and around the town, surprisingly still free. The Saturday morning market throughout the year attracts people from the surrounding areas, both local and tourists alike and on Tuesday evenings in summer there is an arts and crafts market. In addition there are numerous butchers, delicatessens, grocers and boulangeries. Ceret is also well-supplied with supermarkets.

During the holiday season there is additional entertainment with a local flavour as Ceret is the cultural centre of the area. Ceret itself has tennis courts, horse-riding, swimming pool, gym, running track, para-gliding, stadium, rugby and an arena.

The Pyrenees surround Ceret. These mountains are covered with trees and give a breath-taking panoramic views from every corner of Ceret. Canigou, one of the highest local summits, is often snow-capped, even in summer. There is a pleasant country walk from Les Rosiers to a local waterfall with a natural pool. Las Bourgueres, a semi circular walking area close to Les Rosiers is another pleasant walk. On a clear day, one can see the Mediterranean Sea from the highest point of this walk - a combination of sea, sun and mountains. Le Perthus a border town between France and Spain has a variety of shops, especially perfume shops. A little further Nimes, Carcassonne and Montpellier are interesting cities to visit.

Spain can be reached from Les Rosiers in less than 30 minutes. Figueras with the famous Salvador Dali Museum and Thursday morning market, Gerona and Barcelona, can be visited in a one day trips.

Mediterranean beaches and seaside

Ceret is fortunate to be close to both the French and Spanish beaches including: Argeles with its sandy beaches, marina, sailing, wind-surfing, fishing, promenade, evening market, sea side cafes and restaurants and plenty of free parking; Collioure a picturesque fishing village, renowned for its anchovies, its castle and stunning lighthouse separating its two beaches and loved by the impressionist painters for its unique light; Port Vendres, a fishing village with free parking and many fish restaurants; Banyuls, well-known for its fortified wine. There are a variety of fish restaurants in these seaside resorts. In addition to these French resorts, one can benefit from the lovely coves and white beaches of the Costa Brava. Also there are many small fishing villages which stretch along the French and Mediterranean coasts.
