About our region

Argeles Sur Mer is situated at the base of the Pyrenees on the Mediterranean coast, between Collioure, a painter's paradise, and the city of Perpignan. It is only a short drive to the Spanish border.

This region boasts approximately 300 days of sunshine each year.

Just inside the most southerly tip of France, bordering Spain's Costa Brava, this area is part of Catalonia with strong Catalan influences.

The Pyrenees and the majestic Mount Canigou tower as a backdrop to the resort’s sandy beaches with opportunities for snorkelling, scuba diving, wind surfing as well as hiring pedaloes. Argeles has a busy marina, magical at night for al fresco eating or just watching the world go by!

There is an excellent golf course at St Cyprien less than 15 minutes drive away.

A short drive into the foothills of the Pyrenees leads to opportunities for rambling, para-gliding, horse riding etc.

About one and a half hour’s drive takes you up to the ski resorts.

From June to September there are street and craft markets, disco and ballroom dancing and shows of Catalan dancing in the evenings. On the promenade there are several children’s activity areas and a casino. A pleasure park with activities for all the family is nearby. There are numerous ‘eateries’ from pizzerias to gourmet restaurants and seafood specialities.

Other places to visit include:

Ceret (30 min) past cherry trees in blossom during April and the modern art museum all year round.

Figueres, Spain (45 min) for the Salvador Dali exhibition.

Carcassonne (2 hours) and Andorra (3 hours)

About The campsite

Camping Del Mar is on the coast road, 500 level metres from the beach. A small, family run site, it has a delightful, newly installed swimming pool which is open from June till September, as are the on-site shop and restaurant.

A launderette, children’s play area, tennis courts, football pitch and boules area are open all year. The park is planted with Mediterranean pines with local black squirrels searching for nuts, glorious, many hued oleander bushes, waving palm trees, olive trees, aloe vera and other exotic Mediterranean plants.

A road train provides a ‘bus service’ around the area with a stop at the main entrance to Del Mar.
