About
our B&B Nick and Jennifer look forward to welcoming you! Stay at our Bed and Breakfast (Ballade des Pins) in Lodève or rent out the gite (La Melodie) in Soubès. Both are situated in the department of Hérault, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the South of France - just thirty minutes’ drive from the sunny Mediterranean sea. Our varied range of cycling and walking tours means that visitors to the Bed and Breakfast can get by without a car, taking full advantage of the transport, maps and equipment that we provide. Or you may want to explore the region yourself, using the carefully produced guides that we have devised. At the moment we are in the process of installing a swimming pool and hope to have the work completed by Spring 2008. Walking, cycling, sea, lake and river swimming, beautiful mountain and coastal scenery, lovely villages, towns and historic sites - look no further, we‘ve got the lot! Rooms and Facilities We have four large rooms on offer: Faugères, Christol, Picpoul and Chinian. Three have their own private outdoor space (balcony or terrace) and all are equipped with private bathrooms (three are en suite). The rooms cater for one, two, three or four and we can accommodate eleven people in total. Access is by an independent external stairway (we live below) and there is private parking to the rear. Ballade des Pins sits on an elevated position and there are stunning views over vineyards, olive groves and the friendly market town of Lodève itself, which is just ten minutes’ stroll from the house. The main gardens are to the front where the sun shines from early morning till about 7pm in the evening, during the long summer months. There are charming enclaves throughout the grounds where guests can relax at any time of the day, or after dinner in the evenings. Please note: smoking is not permitted inside the house nor on the balconies and terraces. We aim to provide a smoke free environment for the benefit of all. Unfortunately we cannot accept pets The Rooms Chinian A twin room with porte-fenêtres opening onto a private balcony with outside light, table and chairs provided. This room is situated at the front of the house and overlooks the grounds and a neighbour’s vineyard. The room has a washbasin and mirror and also has its own private bathroom across the hall (this is straight opposite, just two metres away). Picpoul A double room at the rear of the house with a king size bed and window overlooking the private terrace outside. An internal arched passageway leads to the en suite bathroom and a small vestibule where the door to the terrace is located. Outside light, table, chairs and sun recliner are provided. Christol
A room with one double bed and a large divan which can be used either as a settee or a single bed when the room is occupied by three people. Situated at the rear of the house, the room has its own large en suite bathroom and has magnificent views over vineyards, olive groves and Lodève cathedral. Faugères
A very large and spacious room with one double and two single beds, one of which sits in a very private alcove. Three porte-fenêtres open onto a huge balcony with views over the grounds, the countryside and Lodève in the distance. Table and chairs and an outside light are provided. The room has its own large, en suite bathroom. Food Breakfast Continental
breakfast is included in all room prices and is A basket of croissants, baguette and brioche, freshly baked and purchased, is accompanied by a selection of preserves, cheese and butter. Guests may choose a beverage from a wide range including freshly ground coffee, chocolate or tea etc Evening Meal We offer evening meals three times a week on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays. The meals consist of four courses and the price of 22 euros includes half a bottle of quality wine, an aperitif and coffee, per person. You will have
no difficulty finding alternative fare on the days when
we do not offer evening meals. There are Packed Lunch A typical packed lunch will include a large baguette-style sandwich, fruit, yoghurt, drink and a packet of crisps or chocolate bar. Prices and Booking Information (B&B) Price in Euros All prices are per room per night and include breakfast.

Cycling Holidays We have researched and devised a series of trails that enable you to make the most of the spectacular countryside, lakes, villages and historic sites nearby. Four times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays you will have the chance to reserve a place in the transport provided which leaves Ballade des Pins at 9.30 am on those days. We have a route that takes you to specific starting points, all within a fifteen mile radius of the B&B. If you wish to follow a cycle track make sure you reserve a bicycle as well as your place. Four times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays you will have the chance to reserve a place in the transport provided which leaves Ballade des Pins at 9.30 am on those days. We have a route that takes you to specific starting points, all within a fifteen mile radius of the B&B. So far we have researched seven walks starting from five points on the circular route that the mini bus follows. The beauty is that all the hard work is done for you! Here you will find village shop and restaurant and a sunny private roof terrace on which to enjoy your barbecues. La
Melodie Self Catering Gîte (Sleeps 2 - 6) La Melodie is a delightful 18th Century Merchant’s House set in the heart of the beautiful, medieval village of Soubès, in the foothills of the Cevennes. La Melodie is a self catering 'gite' with twin, double and loft room with futon. It has a large lounge, kitchen/diner and private roof terrace. It comfortably sleeps 2-6. The
kitchen, dining area and lounge are on the first floor. There are two bedrooms on the second floor. The front bedroom overlooks the street and has two single beds, a chest of drawers and a built in cupboard. Access to the bathroom is gained from this bedroom. The inside bedroom has a double pine bed, chest of drawers and walk in hanging-space. The bathroom has a toilet, sink and bath with curtains and shower attachment. Another large room, which could be a further double bedroom, is on the third floor. It has a cane suite and futon. Glass doors give access to the private, sun-drenched roof terrace outside. Garden furniture, BBQ facilities and linen for the bedrooms is all provided. There is ample parking in the four village car parks and the friendly town of Lodève, with its array of restaurants, cafes and shops, is just three miles away. We provide sets of fresh linen for all beds being used, along with throws and blankets. Towels are not provided. Gas/Electricity/Water charges are all inclusive though low season rentals may require additional heating, and costs for this will be worked out by arrangement. The hot water is on constantly. Changeover day is Saturday and guests arriving must do so between 3 - 5pm and we will meet you at the house. Please telephone our mobile on the day - From the UK: 00 33 672510315, or 0672510315 on a French line, when you have an idea of an approximate arrival time (we live 3 miles from the house). Guests must vacate the property by 10.30am the following Saturday. We will come to collect the keys and return your Security Deposit. The season (Low, Mid or High) when your stay commences, is the season rate that you will pay for the whole week, regardless of whether the season changes during that week. Changeover day is Saturday; price includes gas, electricity, water and linen (but not towels). A deposit of £70 or 100 Euros will be required to secure your booking and a security deposit of 150 Euros on arrival. About our region Lac Salagou is 5 minutes drive from the B&B, about ten from the gite - tranquil lake ideal for swimming , windsurfing and angling. It is located inside the crater of an extinct volcano. Also worth exploring the distinctive red sands of volcanic terrain. There are trails for hiking, rambling, mountain-biking and pony-trekking. Also trout fishing here and at nearby Mas de Mérou. The area is rich with Caves: the Grotte de Clamouse near St Guilhem, the Grotte de Labeil near Lodève and the Grotte des Demoiselles near Ganges. Car hire available at all airports and there are direct coaches to Lodève from Montpellier train station. (There are regular connecting coaches from the airport to the train station). Montpellier About 50 mins drive. Ryanair from Stansted; Seasonal Timetable: British Airways from Gatwick; GB Airways from Gatwick. Nîmes About 1 hour 20 mins drive. Ryanair from East Midlands, Liverpool and Luton. Perpignan About 1 hour 25 mins drive. Ryanair from Stansted; BMIbaby from Manchester; Flybe from Birmingham and Southampton Carcassonne About 1 hour 30 mins drive. Ryanair from Stansted, Dublin, Shannon, Nottingham and Liverpool. Rodez About 1 hour 30 mins drive. Ryanair from Stansted. Avignon About 2 hours’ drive. Flybe from Southampton. By Train Get the Eurostar from London to Paris. Change from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon (about 10 euros taxi fare or get the metro) From Gare de Lyon get the TGV to Montpellier (three and a half hours). Or spend the night in Paris! Hotel Terminus outside Gare de Lyon station is highly recommended then travel down the next day. In Summer, on Saturdays, Eurostar runs a train direct from London to Avignon. Avignon is about two hours’ drive from Lodève and would be another great place to spend a night en route. Motorail has a service from Calais to Narbonne (about an hour from Lodève).
