About
our property Our gite is situated in the Minervois area of Languedoc just to the east of the Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc and is about an hours drive from the Med. The Minervois is an area of low hills and downland so very picturesque between the flat coastal plain and the dramatic landscapes of the mountains in the Parc Naturel. We live on the edge of a typical Minervois hamlet built to serve the agricultural community and producing primarily wine and olive oil. The gîte is attached to our own house although, naturally, completely self-contained with its own garden area. We are surrounded by beautiful country woodland and garrigue (heathland), vineyards and olive groves; with fabulous views across the valley in which the hamlet of Pagiugnan nestles. The Gite (sleeps 4) The gîte comprises a sizable living/dining area, large kitchen equipped with a fridge freezer, full sized modern cooker, washing machine etc, The gite has Free to Air UK television and an internet connection for visitors use. Two bedrooms
one double, one twin a box room for Outside there is a garden area with barbecue and the usual garden furniture; visitors are also welcome to use our garden and paddock which we are in the process of developing. A linen service
can be provided and all utility costs are included in the
rent charged.
About our region The gîte is particularly well suited for those wishing to take an active outdoor holiday being as it is so close to the Haut Languedoc national park where there are opportunities for walking, mountain biking as well as more conventional cycling, swimming, canoeing riding the list is endless. For those wishing to spend a more relaxing time there are several Mediterranean beaches within an hours drive together with bathing inland at a local lake and at many places located on rivers. There is a wide variety of sightseeing to be found at Narbonne with its Roman heritage and magnificent cathedral, canal and indoor market Les Halles; Carcassonne and its medieval citadel, La Cité; Pezenas has a beautiful old quarter and is famous for its association with Moliere and Clive of India. These are just a few of the larger places to visit there are dozens of other smaller but very beautiful/fascinating sights both natural and man made. The Canal du Midi runs by just about ten miles from us and boats can be hired or you can simply walk along its banks shaded by the over hanging plane trees. There are numerous small towns along the way to stop and wander round or have a meal; Capestang, Homps, Sommail, Sallèles dAude .... We are on the northern edge of the famous/infamous Cathar region, with its terrible but mysteriously fascinating history, dotted with castles like Queribus and Perypeteuse perched like eyries atop precipitous slopes. Every town and village has its weekly market the best are at Lezignan, St Pons and Narbonne. Restaurants abound from the Cordon Bleu to the Paysanne serving delicious food at very reasonable prices recommendations can be made or simply go out and try for your self you are very unlikely to be disappointed. Getting there We are within an hours drive drive of the A9 autoroute and surrounded by convenient airports: Carcassonne (1hr 20), Montpellier ( 1hr 30), Perpignan (1hr 20), Nimes and Toulouse (both 2hrs 30) even Girona in Spain is less than 3hrs away.
