  About our property

Welcome to La Capitelle, a luxurious holiday villa in the Languedoc region of South West France. La Capitelle is a beautiful, spacious and comfortable house of over 200mē, built in traditional style and set in excess of 3000mē of picturesque landscape.

The house sleeps 8 easily and 10 are possible. The setting is an old vineyard in the hills, five minutes drive above the town of Lodeve, in the heart of the wine region of Languedoc. The house faces due south and there are stunning and uninterrupted views towards Lac Salagou and westwards up the Grezac valley. The surrounding area is peaceful and quiet yet not isolated, with many interesting and quaint villages easily reachable and the Mediterranean coast only 50 minutes away by car.

The house has a private swimming pool and spacious garden and patio area. The hillside surrounding La Capitelle is criss-crossed with footpaths providing endless opportunities to walk and explore.

Ground floor:

Comprising a large living area, kitchen, 2 double bedrooms (one en suite), family bathroom, separate toilet.

Living area

  • Spacious living area, with comfortable chairs and two sofas (one converts to double bed),
  • Satellite TV (BBC, Sky news) and DVD player,
  • Bose CD system (bring your favourite CDs),
  • 3 sets of French doors opening onto terrace,

  • Beautifully fitted in maple with granite work surfaces,
  • Large central island unit ideal for preparation and a magnate for socialising,

  • Neff gas 5 burner hob and Neff electric fan oven,
  • Dishwasher, microwave, large fridge/freezer, Expresso machine, kettle, toaster.

  • Washing machine, ironing board,
  • Storage.

Ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms:

  • Bedroom 2 has a Queen size double bed, fitted cupboards, wooden floor and French doors leading to the outside terrace. An en suite shower room and toilet with marble surfaces and ceramic tile floor,
  • Bedroom 3 has two single beds, fitted cupboards, wooden floor,
  • Family bathroom with bath, shower, hand basin and toilet,
  • Separate toilet and hand basin.

First floor:

Comprising a large master bedroom and en suite bathroom, mezzanine area.

Master bedroom

  • Queen size double bed, wooden floor, fitted cupboards, and breath-taking views. En suite bathroom with separate shower, toilet and hand basin, marble surfaces and tiles,
  • Large separate landing area with screened sleeping area, double futon, fitted cupboards and, once again, breath-taking views on both sides.

Pool & Garden

  • Covered eating area with table and chairs, adjacent to kitchen,
  • Gas barbecue,
  • Further covered and open terraces, south facing and surrounding the house.
  • Totally secluded and private 10-metre swimming pool, corner steps, fully tiled and heated. Note there are some steps and unguarded areas around the pool that may not be suitable for some people.
  • Huge sunbathing terrace, dotted with palms and paved with Indian sandstone imported from Rajasthan.
  • 8 sun loungers and 2 large sun shades.
  • Lavender and herb garden.

About our region

Lodeve is a traditional small French town unspoilt by tourism. There is a thriving Saturday morning market, which provides an opportunity to buy fresh local produce and practise your French. The town has several supermarkets, bakeries and an excellent "traiteur." There are several cafes and restaurants.

The centre of Lodeve has numerous art and craft shops and the town has a growing reputation for its arts festivals. There is an historic church, museum and cultural centre.

Lodeve is an excellent base from which to explore the Languedoc.

  • Swimming, fishing and kayaking on the L'Herault river (10 minutes),
  • Swimming and sailing on Lac Salagou (15 minutes),
  • History, culture and antiques in Pezanas (15 minutes),
  • UNESCO heritage village of St Guilem de Desert (25 minutes),
  • Geological interest and walking at the Cirque du Navacelles (25 minutes),
  • Buzzing university town of Montpellier (50 minutes),
  • Mediterranean beaches (50 minutes).

Getting there

By air & hire car:

Montpellier - 50 minutes, daily flights Ryanair and BA

Nimes - 90 minutes, daily flights Ryanair

Carcasonne - 90 minutes, daily flights Ryanair

Hire cars are easily available at all three airports, however it is advisable to book in advance.

By car:

The drive to Lodeve from the Channel ports takes 10 hours. By taking a route across the Massif Central it is possible to avoid the busiest French autoroutes and much of the journey is toll free. The house is accessed via an unmade lane leading to our private paved drive and gravel parking area.
