About
our region Our holiday house is in a village called
Capestang, which The area is full of antiquity and items of historical interest, dating back to 3000 BC. This village has been in existence for at least a thousand years. It is a centre of the Languedoc viticulture region, where the local wines have become exceptionally good over the last few years. There are facilities for walking, lazing on the beach, swimming and other water sports, and the area is also very good for cycling and walking. Le Canal du Midi crosses the northern part of the village and is about 500 metres from the house. Capestang has
approximately 3000 inhabitants and is The climate is Mediterranean, with summer temperatures which can reach as high as 35° to 40°C, which is 95° to 104°F. The yearly rainfall comes in shorter and heavier bursts than in England, which results in much more sunshine - the region as a whole has over 300 days of sunshine a year. In winter there can be some night frosts although it rarely snows. The mild temperatures make this area worth considering for a visit at other times than during the summer holidays, especially as cheap flights are often available at off peak seasons. an excellent base for touring the region of Languedoc and
further afield. The house is stone built and terraced, and is comparatively cool in the sumer and warm in winter. All the main rooms have electric convector heaters. It is fully furnished and equipped to a high standard. There are three floors, with ground floor accommodation comprising: Entrance hall. Single bedroom with washbasin with hot & cold water. Utility room with washing machine and a sink with hot & cold water. The first floor accommodation comprises: The lounge and dining area with a small balcony. There is a bed settee, terrestrial/satellite TV (French and English stations available), video, radio and an audio system for CDs and cassettes. There is also a well stocked bookshelf. Kitchen with gas cooker (bottled gas), microwve, oven/grill, toaster, fridge, coffee maker, electric kettle and modern kitchen units. WC. Two double bedrooms, each with twin beds, built-in wardrobes and plenty of drawer space. A large shower room with washbasin, bidet and shower. every requirement." By air: It is about 1 hour from Montpellier, Perpignan and Carcassonne airports, two hours from Toulouse and three hours from Barcelona airports. Ryanair fly from Stansted to Carcassonne, Montpellier, Nimes & Gerona. Easyjet fly from Gatwick to Toulouse and Barcelona, and BMIBaby from East Midlands to Toulouse. Car hire is available at all these airports. By road: Capestang is about 12 hours' driving time from the Channel ports. It is also an easy day's drive from Bilbao in Spain. By rail: There is a motor rail terminus at nearby Narbonne and the journey by Eurostar, TGV and SNCF should take about eleven hours to Beziers from Waterloo Station in London.
