About our region

This architect's recently converted stone built cottage has a large terrace overlooking river and orchards, and is situated in a picturesque riverside hamlet.

The cottage is set in the National Park of the Cevennes, and is ideal for those searching for quiet holidays in unspoilt old fashioned countryside. The region offers good walking with unusually varied scenery, interesting wildflowers and birds. In autumn, the colours are spectacular, and many species of mushrooms can be found. For the active, cycling, canoeing, river bathing and fishing are all popular.

Nimes and Montpellier are approximately 50 km away, thriving with sophisticated centres and worth a visit to admire the carefully restored historic quarters and a variety of new buildings and urban design.

The nearest seaside resort is Montpellier Palavas, 90 minutes drive, but there are several quiet local river bathing places within a few kilometres.

The local town Le Vigan, is 6km away. It has two supermarkets and a good range of smaller shops. There is a weekly Saturday market which is worth a visit for local produce such as goats' cheese, honey, herbs and sweet chestnut products as well as local crafts.

Local restaurants are not Michelin four star but do produce good country food. Aulas, 2km away has one of the best boulangeries in the area.

About our property (sleeps 2/3)

The cottage is attractively furnished with many local antique pieces and fully equipped for 2/3 people.

The cottage has ground floor accommodation comprising:

A living room with open fireplace and log burning stove, large dining table and sofa bed. French doors open directly onto a large terrace running the length of the cottage, which has an outdoor dining table and four chairs.

The kitchen, which is all electric with hob, small oven/grill and refrigerator.

The first floor accommodation comprises:

Bedroom with 4ft double bed and one single bed.

New bathroom with bath and shower.

Prices and booking information

All prices include electricity, water rates and use of telephone for local calls. Logs for heating are included except during the low season. The cottage will be cleaned before and after your visit. Linen and towels can be provided at an extra charge of £10 per week.

Getting there

By air: The nearest airport is Nimes by Ryanair via Stansted which is very good value. Alternatively, BA fly to Montpellier from Gatwick and Ryanair from Stansted. Approximately 1hr 45 minutes' drive.

Marseille by BA or Ryanair is approximately 2hr 30 minutes' drive.

By train: To Nimes or Montpellier (TGV) or by car on the train service to Avignon.

There are infrequent bus services to Le Vignon from Montpellier and Nimes.
