About our region

The village has an open air swimming pool, filled with spa water, a small football pitch, a running track, tennis courts, boules area, and an activity centre for adults and older children. There is a hotel with coffee shop and restaurant. There is also a Buvette, open for lunch, in a beautiful sunny garden. A corner shop serves the villagers, and meat vans deliver to the square a couple of times a week.

One can canoe on the Aude from a nearby location, or
picnic on the river island, which is equipped with a barbeque for public use. The casino also offers a range of meals, and gambling for those interested. The local tourist office can provide guided tours of the village on request.

The glorious sandy beaches of the Mediterranean coast are just an hour away, either at Narbonne or at Perpignan. There is also a lake beach at Carcassonne which is very popular with locals and tourists alike.

The walled city of Cascassonne is also a must to visit. It has been fully restored, and boasts many outdoor eating areas as well as shops and bars. This area is also very popular with bird watchers, particularly in the early Summer.

A golf course is at nearby Carcassonne, approximately 40 minutes drive away. The 9th hole of this course has been named by several golf magazines as the most original in Europe.

There are many Pyrenean ski resorts within an hour's drive of Alet. The nearest is approximately 45 minutes away at Camurac. Larger resorts can be found at Ax-les-Thermes and Les Angles, which are both approximately a one and a half hour drive away.

Andorra, for duty free shopping, is a two hour drive up into the stunning Pyrenees. Lourdes is approximately a five hour drive, again through the stunning Pyrenees.

The Gorge of Galamus is a must to visit, about 35km away, and close to that are the astonishing Cathar Chareaux of Peyrepertuse and Queribus, perched on their mountain tops.

Rennes le Chateau, of the Holy Grail fame, is only 10 minutes drive from Alet.
