Special interest holidays

New for 2008, we are running learn to paint holidays with respected artist and sculptor Jane Hummer. If you have ever looked at a scene or an event and thought 'I'd love to be able to paint that', then this is the getting started course you've been looking for.

Jane will teach basic techniques which can then be practised to create a unique record of your holiday - there will be plenty of time to practise new-found skills each day whilst enjoying the calm and peace of the area.

For those who wish to improve their technique we are delighted to offer painting holidays lead by Frank Stannard.

Walking weeks featuring a local guide who will take our guests 'off the beaten' track and show them some of the hidden treasures of the Minervois.

About our region

The house is on the edge of the village square with small shops, post office and church.

Pepieux is 5 mins from Lac de Jouarres (swimming, sailing, wind surfing & picnic areas) and Olonzac, 15 mins from Minerve and the start of the Haut Languedoc National Park, 30/45 mins from Carcassonne, Narbonne, Beziers and the Mediterannean beaches, 1 hour 30 mins from Montpellier, Toulouse, Perpignan and the Spanish border and 3 hours from Barcelona.

The nearest bank is in Olonzac, 5 mins drive away and there is a wide selection of restaurants available within 5-10 mins drive. There is a cafe and small restaurant in the village.

There are loads of things to see and do, with the Black Mountains, the Haut Languedoc National Park and facilities for walking, fishing, wine tasting, tennis, horse riding, lake swimming (life-guarded in high season) and boating/canoeing practically on the doorstep.

The medieval Cité at Carcassonne and the fortified village of Minerve are within half a hour. Narbonne, Beziers and the Mediterranean coast with its fabulous beaches are all within 40 mins drive, as are the lagoons of Bages and Leucate, offering wind and kite surfing.

The nearest Mediterranean beaches are Narbonne plage and Valras plage, both classic french beach resorts set along 10km of beautiful flat sand (cleaned every day) with activity areas for children, restaurants, shops, and a myriad of other activities. Both make a wonderful day out.

The nearest golf course is at Carcassonne which is half an hour away. Guest members are welcome and those in the know tell us that no-one plays to their handicap as the course is quite challenging

Guest comments

"Our trip was great. We stayed in a very nice B&B in Brittany. The rest of the time was in hotels, some good, some not so good. Our stay at Le Vieux Relais was definitely the highlight for Joan and I. It even beat the 5 star hotel where we stayed in Vichy. It was really wonderful staying with you - I felt very comfortable and at home. The food was also exceptional. Thank you so much. I will return and also recommend you to all my friends."

One of the nicest testimonials we have received is from a mum who works full time and has three lively teenage sons who said that it was lovely ‘not to have to do the thinking’ about what to eat but still be able to wander into the kitchen - glass in hand of course! - and participate if she wanted to!
