About our region

Limoux is situated in the heart of the Cathar region and their striking castles are all within easy reach.
The River Aude meanders through the town which has retained sections of its' 14th century walls and fortified gateways.

The town is a popular destination to use as a base for visiting the many historic villages and other towns with their many attractions in this beautiful area of the Languedoc-Roussillon.

It also has a colourful carnival where musicians and masked dancers perform in the streets every weekend from January to April.

There are many places for visitors to explore such as the village of Rennes-le-Chateau with its' enduring mystery, the ruined Romanesque abbey of Alet-les-Bains and the natural hot springs at Rennes-les-Bains.

Outside the immediate area there is the Principality of Andorra famous for ski resorts and duty-free shopping; the well-preserved fortified town of Minerve, the African Game Reserve at Sigean.

Almost every town and large village has a colourful, local market. Our favourite is Revel which has been described by a well-respected English chef as "the best in France".

This is a very small sample of the attractions of this area and visitors will discover that one visit is not enough to really appreciate the region.

The seasons

Whatever time of year you come to visit you will find that the countryside is just as beautiful.
The fields bursting with big Sunflowers in June, the vines heavy with juicy grapes in August and September followed by the amazing colours of our late Autumn.
Not surprising then that the area is so popular with painters and camera enthusiasts.

Activities

There is a vast array of activities available.
For example horse-riding, donkey trekking, trips on the Canal du Midi, white-water rafting and canoeing, off-road tours or of course you are welcome to relax in the sun in our garden or by the pool.

We are 45 minutes from the first of the clean, sandy beaches of the Mediterranean and about an hour and a half from the nearest ski station where a full range of equipment can be hired and lift passes are very reasonably priced.

We hope you will enjoy your time with us, we will be happy to help you plan your stay or make suggestions for outings and activities.

Getting there

From the D118 which runs through Limoux take the D620 at the roundabout which is signposted Mirepoix. Shortly after take the right fork onto the D102 signposted Malras.

Passing the large Sieur D'Arques winery on the right and about 2 kilometres further on you will see a double bend sign.

Just after that on the right you will see a signpost which says St George. Turn right there, drive up the lane keeping left at the top to the house.
