About
our holiday home in the Minervois This holiday home has been personally inspected by the owners of the Relax in France website, as the owners are neighbours of ours. Situated between the Montagne Noire and the Mediterranean, the holiday home is a former wine cave which has been carefully restored to offer comfortable accommodation. The restoration has been recently completed for the 2006 season. Accommodation comprises: Spacious lounge/dining room with well equipped kitchen corner, including cooker, comination oven/microwave, dishwasher and fridge. Separate utility room with washing machine and freezer. Bedroom 1 overlooking the vinyards, with a double bed, bedside tables and large wardrobe, Bedroom 2 with twin beds also looks out onto the vines. Separate
room with double sofa bed. Shower room with shower, handbasin and WC. Outside is a barbecue and small garden with garden furniture. Private parking. About our region The holiday home is in a hamlet, surrounded by the Minervois vineyards, at the foot of the Montagne Noire. The villages of Peyriac Minervois and Rieux Minervois, about 2km away, provide for all day to day needs, including a small but well stocked supermarket. A travelling boulanger visits the hamet daily. This is an ideal
spot for those looking for a comfortable base from which
to explore this spectacular region. Ten minutes drive
brings you into the spectacular Montagne Noire, with its
peak, Pic de Nore, at about 5000 feet (higher than Ben The city of Narbonne, and the long sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are about an hour away, and in the opposite direction, the medieval city of Carcassonne is about 20 minutes' drive. The village of Caunes Minervois with its medieval streets, is about 3 miles away, and has a beautiful abbey with an interior featuring Caunes marble, which was used in the building of 'Le Grand Trianon' at Versailles. Limoux, home to
the sparking 'Blanquette' wine, is within easy reach, as
are the Cathar castles, perched high on mountain tops
around the region. Carcassonne
airport is just half an hour away, with car hire
available at the airport. Other airports within about an
hour's drive are Perpignan, Montpellier and there is also
Nimes which is about 2 hours' drive away.
