About
our region La Chevaline is an ideal base from which to explore the stunning countryside of this beautiful and diverse region. Lying between the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees, close to Carcassonne, the Mediterranean and the vineyards of the Corbieres and Minervois, we have easy access to a wealth of activities, historic sites and breathtaking scenery. The long, sandy beaches of the Mediterranean and several nearby lakes offer a broad selection of water based activities. The rivers and gorges of the mountains notch up the adrenaline level with white-water rafting, canyoning and kayaking alongside gentler pursuits. With several distinct types of terrain within easy distance, walkers, hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers have an endless choice of routes and landscapes. Come in spring or autumn and enjoy sunny days with temperatures just perfect for hours of exploration. Surrounding towns and villages provide a back-drop of colourful weekly markets and annual fetes which celebrate traditional skills and the rich variety of local produce with a glimpse of a way of life no longer found in many places. Naturally local wines feature high on the list of things to try and most vineyards offer the opportunity for wine tasting, often hosted by the wine producer or a member of the family. From golf to
go-karting and dinosaurs to the space museum, there is
something here to please everyone and we are on hand to
help you make the most of your holiday. Or just relax and
enjoy the simple pleasures of La Chevaline. The farmhouse was built in 1783 and has been converted to provide comfortable self-catering accommodation in four cottages. We have the flexibility to welcome couples, families and groups of up to 22 people. 2 acres of grounds include a half-acre wood, children’s swing set, covered games area for petanque, ping-ping and badminton and a secure enclosure housing a main pool (12.5 x 5 m), a children’s pool (3 x 3 m) and a sunny terrace with loungers and tables. Come and relax over a glass of local wine at Le Fig Tree bar, where in the evening, we serve freshly made pizzas 'al fresco'. Each cottage has its own garden area with garden furniture and barbeque. Kitchen areas are equipped with a gas cooker, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, filter coffee maker and toaster. Sitting rooms are furnished with sofas and easy chairs and a CD/Radio/Cassette player. Each shower room has a shower, wash-basin and WC and there is a hairdryer in each property. Books, board
games and jigsaws are available for loan, as La Forge (sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms)
