    About our region

Gruissan is a unique site in the Mediterranean. It has everything you may need for the perfect holiday. It is very French and quite a lively family resort in the summer.

You can get up in the morning and check out how the pavement artist on the quay is getting along with his commissions, then walk to the bakery where they will be baking fresh bread every hour and buy your hot baguettes and warm croissants for your breakfast. Sit on the terrace in privacy and watch the world go by. Then you can just lounge around the private pool or wander along to:

The Village - a medieval village built in a circle around the castle; with its narrow streets and old houses, tiny shops and family run restaurants. It is classed as one of the most beautiful in France.

The Marina - one of the Mediterranean's major pleasure boat harbours. Admire the yachts belonging to rich and famous, learn to sail or take a trip to Port Nouvelle or the bird sanctuary to see the pink flamingos.

The Beaches - twenty miles of soft white fine sand that gently shelves into the sea for safe bathing and lots of room for games or just getting away from it all.

A Swimming pool and a paddling pool - private to our apartments and houses.

The Etangs - salt water inland lagoons that are a sanctuary for birds, especially the pink flamingos

Local gastronomy - family run restaurants with recipes handed down from generation to generation.

Night life for the young at heart - pavement cafes with groups playing every style of music. Dancing at the Casino or at one of the four clubs, a 5 or 10 minute walk from our properties.

The Mountains - stunning views of the Pyrenees, walking and mountain biking in the Clape mountains behind Gruissan.

Shopping - try the delicacies of the local market in the old medieval village.Wander around the port for clothes and jewellery or explore the potteries in the countryside. For the serious shopper there is nearby Narbonne, Carcassone and Montpelier. We love the indoor food market in Narbonne, where local farmers display their produce with pride in the lovely old building.

The Canal du Midiwe regularly hire a boat for the day, great fun on the water with a picnic or stop at one of the many restaurants along the way for lunch.

The little yellow trainone of our favourite days out with spectacular views of the Pyrenees as you ascend to the ski resorts (great in summer or winter).

The Cathar castles – the people in this area were known as the Cathars and broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in the 10th Century. They appointed a kind man in each village to look after the sick and work their crops instead of a priest. The pope was not too impressed and sent Simon de Montfort to sort them out (the infamous Spanish inquisition). Consequently, the Cathars built themselves castles spectacularly perched on the top of hills and mountains for their defence.

Maison du Midi – Paraza on the Canal du Midi

Spacious village house with stunning views of the countryside and facing the Canal du Midi. Sleeps 2 - 10

150m2 Great for holidays.

The tranquillity of the Canal du Midi will greet you every morning from your covered terrace. The village has three chateaux producing great deep red wines. You have an uninterrupted view of the vineyards and the Pyrenesse mountains beyond.

Maison du Midi is a delightful and spacious property set on the edge of the sleepy village of Paraza just minutes from the town of Lezignan and just a few miles from the larger towns of Narbonne and Carcassonne and the historic village of Minerve. Centrally located for everything you need. The house has been totally refurburbished and will be ready to rent in July 2008.

Paraza is a unique village in the Aude department of the Languedoc, lies on the Canal du Midi with a back drop of the black mountains behind. To the north the hills rise to meet the densely wooded Parc National Haut Languedoc; to the south the open garrigue descends to the vine-covered plains around Narbonne (15 mins), with the Mediterranean a further 10 minutes from Narbonne.

The area is renowned for its wildlife, birds, innumerable varieties of butterflies and of course, boating on the canal.

The village itself is surrounded by beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers.

Your neighbours in the village are mostly French and are very friendly. Paraza is lovely for cycling and walking and driving to the top of a valley that gives panoramic views over the Minervois and the Corbieres to the Pyrenees beyond.
