About our region
La Combe is a pretty, stone faced cottage adjoining 2 other farm cottages situated in a quiet, rural position, roughly 1 mile equidistant from 2 villages, La Chapelle Caro and Le Roc St. André.
There is a fantastic butcher in Le Roc plus excellent bakers and small supermarkets in both villages.
No need to venture further for all your basic needs and even the pleasure of dining out, because both offer a good choice of eating out possibilities.
Across the bridge at Le Roc St. André is the towpath along the River Oust, which forms part of the Brest to Nantes canal. This offers delightful cycling, walking or jogging possibilities. The picturesque Lock no. 28 and a small weir are a short walk from the cottage.
Within a few hundred metres from the cottage is ‘La Voie Verte’. Once a railway line, it now has an excellent tarmac surface for safe bicycling, roller blading or walking.
For the energetic, it is some 40 miles in length if they are looking for a challenge.
Nearby is the charming old riverside town of Malestroit, which has an excellent market on Thursdays.
Ploërmel is a larger town and close to it is the ‘Lac au Duc’. Here there is a sandy beach for safe, fresh water swimming possibilities.
Sailing is a popular activity on the lake and bordering it is an excellent 9 hole golf course, open to visitors and seldom busy.
The beautiful Gulf of Morbihan with its many beaches is within easy reach and among the coastal towns to visit are Vannes, Auray, Carnac, Quiberon, Concarneau, Quimper and many more.
The nearest beach (Damgan) is within 40 minutes easy drive. Inland and close by are the town of Josselin with its impressive castle and the forest of Paimpont with its legends of Brocéliande, ideal country for walkers.
