Accommodation in Barn Apartment

Couples look.... self contained unit, converted barn loft apartment

Sorry we do not take children.

A newly converted barn a well appointed loft self catering apartment including free wifi.. Set within the grounds of a large country house in 3 acres, you have your own separate entrance and completely self contained... if you don't want to see us you don't! Secure parkings and privacy.

Within 5 minutes of Utah Beach and set within the Park Naturel Cotentin & Bessin. We are ideal for long country or beach walks, there are rivers and canals, bird watching, the river Douve only 3km from us has a boat trip through the Marshes to see Cranes, Marsh Harriers, Egrets just to name a few species.

It's possible from here to go to Paris for a day out or Jersey. Bayeaux half an hour away, Caen, now that's a city worth exploring where William the Conqueror hailed from and is buried.... St Vaast a UNESCO site a small version of Honfleur 20 minutes away, the real Honfleur 2 hours...the problem here is there is too much to do!

Accommodation

Open plan lounge with dining area and well appointed kitchen TV Stereo.

This is a perfect place for a couple exploring the area who like peace and tranquility... as long as you like country noises then this is great.

Stavros the donkey can't help himself when he sees someone - he brays, he's not ours but is totally convinced he belongs to us! We also have 2 Llamas, 2 sheep, 2 goats, 2 kune kune pigs, a flock of chickens, quite a few cockerels (that chant in the morning), as well as a goose, they have complete freedom to wander over all our land, our freshly laid eggs are available.

As well as that we do have 5 small dogs and quite a few cats... none of which are allowed in the apartment or the cottage - but they all love visitors - so before you decide to come please be aware they will expect you to say hello when you come and go or are in the garden!

Our 3 Jack Russells adore visitors especially Madge who will spend hours playing with you if you want her to! They do not understand being ignored. We are equidistant 8kms to Carentan, Ste Mere Eglise and Utah Beach.

We're in the heart of the American sector for WW2 buffs.

Date Submitted: August 19, 2008   Date of Stay: August 2008 We spent a peaceful, relaxing 2 weeks in this delightful well equipped apartment. The location is superb - perfect for exploring the D-Day landing beaches, seeing the Bayeux tapestry and Mont St.Michel. We loved waking up to the sounds of church bells, cockerels and Stavros the donkey. Another highlight were the fresh eggs laid by Tansy and Mike's chickens for breakfast. Tansy and John were helpful, friendly hosts. Another highlight was the availability of Sky TV - no need to miss any of your favourite programmes!!

If only all holidays were like this! Alex and Sarah London UK

We have just got home from our stay in the barn apartment and we are missing it already. We were made to feel very much like we were in a home from home, and Mike and Tansy were exceedingly pleasant and generous hosts, always on hand if we needed anything but not at all forceful – the ideal balance! The apartment itself was lovely, couldn’t ask for anything more – it was really comfortable and there’s plenty of room to stretch your legs at the end of a hard day’s sunbathing. We are now thinking of installing a wet room in our garden…

As for location, it’s perfectly based for travelling anywhere in Normandy – really close to D Day beaches and only an hour or two drive from several really great cities or attractions. Thanks to you both for a lovely stay and should the opportunity arise we would love to stay there again.

Jill Lincolnshire Review Submitted: June 28, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011

We have just enjoyed a weeks stay in the barn conversion and can thoroughly recommend. The accomodation is of a very high standard with every need catered for even down to dressing gowns, logs to burn and a lovely wetroom style bathroom. We have travelled to France many times but always keep returning to Normandy. It is a lovely place with so many interesting places to visit and the people are always so friendly. Everyone should visit the D-Day beaches once in their lives to appreciate the history and how wonderful the cemetries are kept and the events respected. Tansy and Mike are fantastic hosts and couldnt have been more friendly and helpful. Their home is gorgeous especially if you are animal lovers like us, with lots of friendly creatures to meet! Ideally placed. only 5 mins from Utah beach and 10 minute drive to lots of restaurants, supermarkets etc and although probably easier to reach via ferry crossing to Normandy, we travelled on the Tunnel and the drive is extremely straight forward and hassle free. Spotlessly clean, high quality fittings, lovely place to stay.

Utah Beach is located on the eastern side of the peninsular is set in a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres 500 meters from our house.

The area is in stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing.

The East coast being slightly wilder than the west coast is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty.

This area in Normandy is also famous for its horses with numerous stud farms and training stables.

Here on Utah Beach Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach.

The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war or just generally exploring.

Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded.

With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks. If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals. Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations.

It is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally. Plant a tree and or play golf: Off set some guilt about your carbon footprint and plant a tree in our park...you have the option - go to our local nursery choose one, buy one, organize the deer/rabbit guard and plant it yourself ... or give us 50 Euros and we will do it all for you, all you then have to do is admire it!

Golf courses including Links courses nearby for you keen golfers. Ladies, plenty of shopping in Caen and Bayeux.

If you like local produce then there are many farms open to the general public, where you can see the produce being made and buy some to take home.

It's even possible to have tours round the Camembert factories and Calvados distilleries.

Other Activities: Bird watching, dolphin & seal watching, boat trips round the invasion beaches, sand yachting, para wind surfing, beach combing.

Local to us to name a few...Ste Mere Eglise, Utah Beach, Point du Hoc, Grandcamp Maisy, Bayeux, Caen, Cherbourg, St Lo, Coutances, Mont St Michel, Avarranches, WW2 Invasion Beaches, American Cemetery, Mulberry Harbour, Carentan, Ferry ports, motorway, railway line to Paris.
