About our region
Superb location on the edge of the historic village of Montpeyroux in the heart of one of the finest wine growing regions, close to Clermont l'Hérault and St Guilhem le Desert.
The one bedroom Gîte adjoins a typical Mediterranean style villa.
It is self contained with its own entrance and is available on a self catering basis to non-smokers.
The owners are a hospitable retired English couple who are there if you need them.
With regret - no children nor pets.
A Place in the Vines is located an easy 5 minute stroll from the centre of the historic village of Montpeyroux. Overlooked by the floodlit ruins of Le Castellas, Montpeyroux has a baker, butcher, general store, hairdresser, tabac, post office, bar and bistro.
There is a village market on Thursday mornings. In addition there is a Wine Co-operative and 18 independent wine growers.
Only a few minutes drive away there is the Hérault Gorge - with a small beach for swimmers, Grotte de Clamouse, and the World Heritage Site of St Guilhem le Desert.
Walking
Montpeyroux is located at the foot of the large limestone Causses of the Masif Central below the Larzac highlands, with Mont St Baudile (2,750 ft) and the Seranne Masif towering above. To the south the Herault plain runs down to the Mediterranean Sea.
We have put together an Information Pack which includes very detailed notes on over 20 easy/strenuous and short/long walks/rambles. The notes are designed for the very amateur walker to find their way around the mountain paths and tracks without map-reading skills, but also are useful for the more experienced rambler.
The historic and vibrant regional capital city of Montpellier, with it's fine contrast of classic and ultra modern architecture, theatres and museums is an easy 35 minute drive away.
The Mediterranean Sea can be reached in only 40 minutes. Here you can find restaurants along the miles of sandy beaches and beside the Etang du Thau that specialise in freshly-caught sea food dishes.
The region is a paradise for artists and ramblers, as well as those seeking a total chill-out.
At A Place in the Vines you can choose whether to relax on the patio, in the pool or discover one of France's best kept secrets...the beauty of the Languedoc.
