About our region
Brittany: The magical shores of
Brittany are rough and deeply indented. This landscape,
with its charming fishing villages, rocky islands, and
Celtic language, is very similar to that of its cultural
siblings, Scotland and Ireland.
Despite its ruggedness, the coast has a number of good
beaches, especially near Saint-Malo and the mouth of the
Loire River. In the Gulf of Morbihan near Vannes, a
multitude of tiny islands grow and shrink with the tides.
Carnac: Renowned ancient standing stones and fine sandy
beaches. Carnac is famous as the site of more than 3,000
prehistoric standing stones. The stones were hewn from
local rock, and were erected by the pre-Celtic people of
Brittany.
Concarneau: Large fishing port with lovely old quarter
enclosed by granite ramparts.
Dinan: Wonderfully preserved medieval town. Dinan is a
walled Breton town and a commune in the Côtes-d Armor
département, France. It is one of France's most
attractive walled towns.
Josselin: Impressive chateau
overlooking the picturesque canal. Josselin is a commune
of France, in the Morbihan département, in the region of
Brittany. It is very close to Pontivy.
St Meriadek is said to have founded a chapel there during
the 4th century. It became a stronghold of the House of
Rohan.
Pink Granite Coast: Strangely eroded rocks scattered
along the shores around Perros Guirec.
St Malo: Walled citadel looking across a pretty bay.
Saint-Malo is a walled port city in Brittany in northern
France on the English Channel. It is a a sous-préfecture
of the Ille-et-Vilaine département.
Getting
There
Flights:
Dinard, Brest, Nantes, Rennes.
Ferry:
Roscoff, St Malo, Cherbourg, Le Havre, Caen.
We recommend Plymouth to Roscoff (Brittany Ferries),
although be aware of price differences depending on times
of travel. Afternoon sailings from the UK, and Morning
sailings from France, are generally the Cheapest. St Malo
would be our second recommendation.
