About
our region Canard Ferme (which means "Duck Farm") is situated in the quiet farming countryside of Lot-et-Garonne in south west France. Less than an hour's drive from Bergerac airport, or just a little further from Bordeaux or Toulouse if flights there are more convenient for you - you will soon be relaxing in the hot sunshine and the sound of silence! Several towns within half an hour's drive all have different days for street markets, where you can buy or browse among such a variety of stalls - foodstuffs like cheeses and hams, dresses and bags, arts & crafts, and much more. There are also many towns with ancient buildings and towers, a delight for the sightseer, photographer or artist; a study project for the historian. There are so many places to visit that we cannot do justice to all the possibilities on one short page. Please refer to the collected notes in your gite. There are also many good
restaurants with half an hour's drive. A typical menu for
14 (£10) is something you'll write home about. Canard Ferme is set in a hectare
of private garden, surrounded by sunflowers, poplar
trees, corn fields, fruit orchards and vineyards. The
main farmhouse has been completely renovated, keeping the
exterior of traditional stone and tiles. One half Duck House (sleeps 4) Duck House has two bedrooms and one bathroom, all on one floor, convenient for young children or the infirm. The kitchen has a full complement of modern devices: fridge, gas cooker, microwave oven, electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker....an a corkscrew, of course! There is also a washing machine. If you wish to stay off season in the cooler months, playing golf perhaps, there is a log burning stove to keep the evenings cosy. The bathroom has all the usual facilites, including an instant shower. Drake House (sleeps 6) Drake House occupies the full central width of the original farmhouse; the back door opens towards the pool, and the front door opens onto a covered veranda. Many features such as the fireplace, timber beams and stonework have been cleaned and left exposed for that authentic old French farmhouse feel. The kitchen/dining room is very spacious, but despite being "traditional," the units and equipment are new and modern. The house is on two floors: a twin bedroom and bathroom with bath and separate shower upstairs, a double bedroom with additional bunk beds, wash basin and separate toilet downstairs. Both gites are very well equipped
but if you do find anything missing, please ask: Joy or
Paul your resident hosts are always on hand to offer
assistance if required. The houses both have access to a
patio and grassy area with outdoor furniture, barbecue,
games and a swing, as well as the large swimming
pool with
surrounding sun loungers. The shallow end of the pool has
steps, and the deep end is approximately 1.5m. Choose
your favourite time for a dip: morning fresh, mid day
heat, sunset cool or midnight!
Canard Ferme Gites are let by the week Saturday to Satuday. Short breaks may be available during the low season. We do not have direct online payment facilities. If you are based in the UK and can make credit transfers to Barclays Bank, we will email our account number and sort code details. All other payments should be made by cheque in pounds (GBP) or Euros to "Lorna Joy Hill." A deposit of £100 per week is required to secure a booking; the full holiday payment is due 8 weeks before the start date. Cancellations are subject to a charge, which may be reduced in the event of a re-let. Getting there As Canard Ferme is situated in the countryside, you will need a car to reach us, and to visit the market towns and restaurants. Ryanair has a daily schedule of flights from London Stansted to Bergerac, arriving at and departing from our part of France at about noon every day. From Bergerac airport you can drive to Miramont (either the N21 and D1 via Castillonnes, or the D933 through Eymet and on to St Barthelemy. Finally, take the Tourtres road (close by St Bart war memorial), over a small crossroads and then the first turn for Labretonie (drive very slowly, it's easy to miss it), past a few farm buildings and a house called La Cachette until you see the view above. Well done, you've arrived! (Airport to Canard Ferme in under an hour).
