A smaller
walled terrace is approached through the French Bursting with French character, the cottage displays a wealth of wooden beams, golden stone and cool, tiled floors. About our region Although secluded, Montguyard is by no means isolated; it is close enough to the main tourist sites for guests to get to them easily, yet remains a haven of rural calm to retreat to after a day in the busier tourist hotspots. It lies roughly 3 km from the thriving medieval bastide town of Eymet, and 22km from Bergerac. The vibrant city of Bordeaux is also within easy reach. The Dordogne is steeped in history. In the middle ages, the English lived here, under the rule of the Black Prince - something many of our French neighbours are surprisingly proud of! Within easy reach there are superb chateaux, fortified towns crowning precipitous hills, prehistoric cave settlements lining the cliffs above the Vezere and, of course the gorgeous valley of the Dordogne itself, winding down from its wilder upper reaches to the great wine growing areas of Bordeaux. ActivitiesThe region is generally
considered to be the gastronomic centre of France. There
are excellent, inexpensive restaurants offering the
famous specialities of the region. Badminton, numerous board games and 2 mountain bikes are available on site. Getting there Several airlines operate into Bordeaux, and flights into Bergerac are available from Ryanair flying from Stansted and British European from Southampton. Early booking of flights and car hire can be very cost effective when compared with ferry and driving costs, particularly for one week breaks. The local market town of Eymet lies some 12 miles south of Bergerac. It is a 390 mile drive from Caen on good French roads, taking some 8 to 9 hours. From the more northern channel ports, e.g. Calais it is a 530 mile drive, but using the Autoroute system you can still drive the distance in around 10 hours. Eurostar operates from London to Bordeaux and there is a motorail service into Brive. To book, please contact the owners:
