About our region

Eymet (6 miles) is an attractive bastide town with a Thursday market and many summer activities.

There are also markets at Bergerac, Issigeac, Duras and Ste.Foy la Grande, all attractive towns and worth a visit.

As well as the Lac de Pomport, less than two miles from Le Chai, there are two other lakes within a short distance - Lac Saut du Loup at Miramont and the Lac de Castelgaillard. All have sand beaches, play areas for children and life guards.

The coast south of Bordeaux is about 1 ½ hours away and includes Arcachon, famous for its surfing beaches and the Dune de Pilat, the highest sand dune in Europe.

Golf is available at Chateau de Vigiers at Monestier, and at a number of cheaper golf courses. There is horse riding at the Centre Equestrien at Bridoire.

Canoeing is available on the river Dropt at Allemans and there is more exciting (but perfectly safe) canoeing on the Vezere and Dordogne rivers.

There are many good restaurants in the area.

Local vineyards produce some excellent, inexpensive wines and wine tasting is widely available. Signposted wine routes take you through the wine producing areas of Bergerac, St. Emilion, Duras and Monbazillac.

There are countless opportunities for sightseeing – castles, bastide towns, gardens, and museums. The caves at Les Eyzies and Lascaux are within two and a half hours’drive.

About our property (sleeps 4)

Le Chai is an attractive stone cottage, carefully restored, on a quiet country road linking Sigoules with the hamlet of St. Innocence. It was converted in 2003/4 from what had been a barn used for winemaking (hence its name) and is in the two and a half acre grounds of the owner’s house. Both houses have lovely views over rolling countryside. There is parking for cars beside the cottage.

The gite has a pool (10m. by 5m.), shared with the owners, which conforms to French safety regulations. There is a lake two miles away with a beach and play area for children.

The cottage is light and airy.

Upstairs is a large bedroom (6 m by 3 m) with twin beds, which can be pushed together to make a double, and a smaller bedroom (3.3 m × 3.3 m) with twin beds. Both bedrooms have pine floors and each has a hanging rail and a chest of drawers.

On the ground floor there is a spacious living room/kitchen (6.4 m × 6.4 m) with a tiled floor, a dining table and chairs and four easy chairs. The kitchen area is fully equipped with a gas cooker, microwave, refrigerator dishwasher and generous storage space.

A short corridor out of the living room leads to a shower room and study. The shower room has a large shower area with hand basin, w.c. and washing machine, and the study (3.7 m by 2.8 m) could be used as a single bedroom for one of the four.

At the far end of the corridor is a glazed door opening onto the terrace with garden furniture, sun umbrella and barbecue.

There are electric convector heaters throughout and the water is heated by electricity.

The terrace looks in a south easterly direction over the garden and the surrounding countryside and a path from there (approx. 20 metres) leads below the main house to the swimming pool (10 m by 5 m) which has a vineyard to one side and views over open country.

Bed linen and towels are provided and a welcome pack consisting of a bottle of wine, bread, butter, milk, cheese and pate.

We ask that visitors do not smoke in the cottage or in the grounds and we are sorry that we cannot accept pets.
